Utah hidden gem this week: Gooseberry Campground, tucked in the Fishlake National Forest up in Sevier County near Fish Lake.

From Nephi it is about an hour and forty minutes south on US-89. Not a long haul, and the setting pays off. Fish Lake sits at roughly 8,800 feet, which means you are trading the valley heat for cool mountain air and one of the highest natural lakes in Utah. Gooseberry is a quieter option in that area compared to the main Fish Lake campground, which fills up fast on summer weekends.

Fishing is the draw for a lot of people in Fish Lake. But even if you are not fishing, the forest roads in that area give you good places to explore, and the elevation keeps things comfortable well into September. Fall color starts showing up early at that altitude, so late September trips often get some bonus scenery.

When one of our trailers needs work, the last thing we want to do is haul it across town to a shop.

That’s one of the reasons we like working with Revolution Land and Sea out of Nephi. They work on RVs, trailers, and boats, and they also handle winterization.

What really makes them convenient for us is that they come to us. They can come out to the Red Cliffs yard where we store our fleet and take care of the repairs right there. No hooking up a trailer, hauling it to a shop, and then making another trip to pick it up.
They show up, get the work done, and the trailer goes right back into storage, ready for the next booking.

They also have access to work on our trailers and other units inside Red Cliffs Storage, which makes things even easier.

Tip Tuesday: When you hook up shore power at a campground, plug order matters.

The surge protector goes into the pedestal first. Then your trailer plugs into the surge protector. Never plug the trailer straight into the pedestal.

Here is why it matters. Campground pedestals can have wiring problems: reversed polarity, open grounds, or a voltage spike from the grid. A good surge protector catches all of that before it ever reaches your trailer's electronics, water heater, or AC unit. But only if it is sitting between the pedestal and the trailer. If you plug the trailer in first and then try to add the surge protector, you are doing it wrong and the protection is not doing its job.

Some surge protectors also have a built-in delay after you plug them in. That is normal. Let the unit run its check before you plug the trailer in. The light or display will tell you when it is safe.

If you do not own one yet, a 30-amp inline surge protector runs around $30 to $60. A 50-amp unit is a little more. Worth every penny compared to replacing an inverter or a control board.

Most Sundays look like this: a trailer or two back in the yard, a checklist on the tailgate, and Drew going through everything before the next family picks it up.

Tires, bearings, brakes, hitch hardware, all the lights, water lines, the little stuff that matters. It is not glamorous work, but it is the reason we can say every trailer goes out ready. Not as-is. Ready.

Jessica handles the kitchen check on the travel trailers: every pan, every cup, every utensil back in its place and accounted for. The kids have been known to help with the linen count. That part is debatable.

Here is something a lot of trailer owners do not realize: if your rig is sitting in the driveway most of the year, it can be paying for its own storage and then some.

Red Cliffs Storage has 10 spaces set aside specifically for Lone Pine Adventure Hosts. These are the folks who list their trailers through Lone Pine Rentals, and instead of keeping the rig at home between bookings, they store it right here. Well-maintained, secure, easy pickup and drop-off when a rental comes through.

Small spaces start at $60 a month, or $50 a month if you pay a year in advance. Large spaces are $70 a month, or $58.33 a month annually. The annual prepay works out to two months free either way.

If you have been waiting for a travel trailer that actually has room for the whole family, Springdale is worth a look.

It is a roomier, family-oriented layout. Not a toy hauler, not a stripped-down weekender. Just a solid travel trailer with the space to make a family trip comfortable instead of cramped.

Springdale is Basecamp-eligible, so if you want the trailer delivered and set up at Sevier River RV Park in Marysvale, that is an option too. No towing required.

$130 a night. Weekly and monthly rates are available as well. Minimum age to rent is 21.

Utah hidden gem this week: Miller's Flat Camping Area, tucked in the mountains above Fairview on UT-31 through Huntington Canyon.

It is about 18 miles east of Fairview, which puts it roughly 50 minutes from Nephi. Close enough for a long weekend without a major haul.

The setting is a reservoir framed by the Wasatch Plateau. Fishing, hiking, and access to the kind of mountain scenery that makes you forget your week ever happened. This is a legit Forest Service campground with reservable sites, so it works well for families who want a little structure without the crowds you find at the bigger parks. Open Memorial Day through October, which means September is still prime time.

Tip Tuesday: Put a water pressure regulator between the campground spigot and your hose. Every time.

Campground pressure can hit 80 PSI or higher. Most trailer plumbing is rated for 45 to 60. A $15 preset regulator keeps your fittings, water heater, and lines from taking a hit. Thread it onto the spigot first, then connect your hose. Simple fix, real protection.
