Last weekend I married a couple.

The wind had opinions.

The timeline got creative.

Somebody misplaced something important.

You know... wedding stuff 😂

And none of it mattered.

Because the second they looked at each other, everything else disappeared.

One of the greatest gifts of being an ordained minister is that I get the best view in the house.

Not the flowers.
Not the decorations.
Not the Pinterest-worthy details.

The people.

The way they look at each other.

The way their families look at them.

The way an entire room pauses to witness two people choosing each other.

As much as I love a great party afterward, those moments are my favorite.

They're real.

And they're the reason I do this 🤍

So now there’s:
a golf course,
a little Scottish mischief,
whiskey flowing,
bagpipes somewhere in the distance,
friends arriving from everywhere,

Literally and figuratively…
there are many players involved.

The girls are dressed.
The boys are competitive.
Someone already started a putting challenge for money.
The charcuterie boards are outrageous.
There may or may not be a tartan dress code.
And somehow this entire thing feels both wildly elegant and completely unhinged.

Exactly how it should.

Because life is too short for forgettable birthdays.

This isn’t just a party.
It’s connection.
Celebration.
Community.
A reason to gather your people around the table and remember what being alive actually feels like.

As we close out EMS Week 2026 🚑🤍

let’s remember the community, connection, and commitment our first responders give every single day.

The long shifts.
The missed holidays.
The late-night calls.
The way they continue showing up for complete strangers on some of the hardest days imaginable.

And somehow… they still find ways to laugh together, support each other, and serve their communities with heart.

That kind of dedication deserves more than one week of recognition.

So check on your people.
Invite them to the BBQ.
Save them a plate if they’re stuck on shift.
Show appreciation when you can.

Because gratitude goes a long way—and community always matters 🤍

There’s only ONE place I’ve ever worked where more couples met, dated, trauma bonded, fought, got back together, and eventually got married than anywhere else…

EMS.

And honestly?

Nothing says romance quite like:
☕ sharing gas station coffee at 3am
🚑 hearing “we got another call” while halfway through cold fries
📻 one of you driving code while the other silently questions every life decision that led here
😂 developing dark humor so specific normal people get uncomfortable immediately

Y’all are some kind of special alright 😏

Because somehow EMS couples will:

* survive shift work
* survive sleep deprivation
* survive charting
* survive smelling like ambulance at dinner

…and STILL decide:
“Yeah. Let’s throw a huge wedding and invite all our emotionally unstable first responder friends.” 💍

Which honestly means the reception is guaranteed to include:
🎤 karaoke that becomes medically concerning
🍻 at least one medic crying to a country song unexpectedly
🔥 campfire trauma dumping disguised as “storytelling”
💃 somebody attempting CPR to the beat of the dance floor music as a joke
🚑 and one exhausted partner saying:
“Babe… please stop explaining airway management to the bartender.”

🚨 5 reasons you should use me as your ordained minister 😏💍

1️⃣ I can pronounce you husband and wife AND coordinate the reception chaos immediately afterward.

2️⃣ If the groom forgets his vows, I’ve probably already got backup notes, snacks, safety pins, and emotional support ready to go 😂

3️⃣ I fully support:
🔥 meaningful ceremonies
💃 feral dance floors
🎤 karaoke after midnight
🤍 and marriages that actually feel like YOU

4️⃣ I work with a lot of first responders, which means:

* I’m calm under pressure
* timelines don’t scare me

It’s EMS Week.

And honestly… if you know EMS culture, it feels pretty on brand that they’re the final first responder recognition week of the season 😂

Last to eat.
Last off shift.
Last to sit down.
Last to get recognized.

But absolutely never least.

As we head into Memorial Weekend and close out Mental Health Awareness Month, I keep thinking about the people who quietly show up every single day to walk into chaos, help strangers on their worst days, and somehow still crack jokes in the ambulance bay afterward.

That kind of work leaves a mark.

And from my experience around first responder culture, I know the strongest people are often the ones checking on everyone else instead of themselves.

So this week feels like a good reminder:

Check on your EMTs and paramedics.
Invite them to the BBQ even if they might miss half of it because of shift work.
Save them a plate.
Give them space to laugh, decompress, and actually feel part of the community they spend so much time serving.

Because sometimes the best support isn’t some giant gesture.

Sometimes it’s just making sure people know they matter 🤍
