Champagne with a Sword!
La Confrerie du Sabre d'Or first appeared in French History during the reign of Napoleon 1st and his Imperial Guard.
The Imperial Guard began as the Consular Guard, created on November 28, 1799 by the union of the Guard of the Directory and the Grenadiers of the Legislature. It was comprised of about a thousand soldiers whose principal purpose was to provide security for the executive and legislative branches of the new French Republic. The Consular Guard changed its name to the Imperial Guard on May 18, 1804.
Imperial Guards received cases of Champagne from Madame V***e Clicquot as a gift to give them strength on the battlefield. Imperial Guards would open these Champagne bottles with their swords.
