In Shelbyville, Kentucky you’ll find some of the state’s tastiest cheeseburgers inside this unassuming old building known as Carriss’s Grocery. Step through the door and you’ll find an old-fashioned country store filled with hats, candy, jams, handmade items, and the warmth of a wood-burning stove. The grill is a big reason people make the drive, especially for juicy cheeseburgers with crisp edges and plenty of fresh toppings. You can pair one with golden onion rings or fried potatoes covered with onions for a filling country meal. Breakfast is another favorite here, and Carriss’s finished second in Kentucky Living’s Best in Kentucky breakfast voting in both 2023 and 2024. Homemade lunch plates and a changing selection of desserts give you even more reasons to stop. The history runs deep, too...Carriss’s Store in the small Southville community is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, helping preserve a piece of Shelby County’s old country-store past.
