The organic guest garden is ready for visitors! We planted the last year and now they’re ready for sharing. We were surprised to find all that oregano under the weeds 😝 is here!
Herbs that have overwintered well: chives, parsley, oregano, rosemary, sage, tarragon, mint.
Annuals coming soon: basil, cilantro, dill
Preparing to transplant: thyme, artichoke, celery

2025 has been a bit of a punch in the face. Homesteading isn’t for the faint of heart. A lot has been sacrificed this year, including chicken lives. At least we caught the hawk in the act this time and got to shower this Betty with love and kisses before we did the best we could for her. Now she will give us, and our super senior dog-ter, lots of nutrition in the days to come.

The first-year Bettys (and a Dolly!) are showing UP! Thanks ladies! We didn’t need to buy any eggs this year! 🎉
Our hens are all named Betty. Roosters are all Bruce. Duck hens are Dolly, and drakes are - uncreatively - Drake.
Cayuga ducks start out laying eggs with a dark, almost black, layer of protective “bloom” (it’s what keeps all eggs safe to eat without refrigeration). The eggs come out lighter as the ducks age. This egg was a Dolly’s first!

Scratched off our first card!
Had a blast at in Springfield. We did a 90 minute session with Axepert Zakiyyah that taught us all the tips and tricks. It’s harder than it looks!! We’ll be back to hone our skills! 🪓🎯

So happy to finally check out the newest spot in town
The menu is fantastic, the portion sizes are just right, and the prices are reasonable!

2. Cranberry/Orange/Walnut Croissant Waffle
3. Croque Madame on a savory waffle
4. Potatoes Dauphinoise
5. Vega Medien Cava Brut mimosa
The waffles seem to be stuffed with some sort of deliciousness 🤤
A plate was the perfect amount for each of us, but we decided to share the potatoes… and then ordered a second, they were soooo good. Do yourself a favor and try an order. Dare you not to add another!
