2 days of hard manual labor and done by dark thirty before this storm hit. This was the hard first step but we have a good ways to go to get the remaining stuff stuck on floor off. It’ll be a little while before I have the next updates on progress. This isn’t going to be something done quickly and I am still trying to decide which route I truly want to go for floor finish. If it was just me personally I would keep it raw concrete patch the cracks really good and just roll with it the good the bad and the ugly at this point . With it being public use I feel I need to make it look good but I never want to have to go through this again so I am cautiously weighing my best options out. I will not be rushing this at all and hope I make the right decisions. Hope everyone had a good 4th. Pete and I spent our 41st anniversary today doing hard labor on this rink, the upside is we usually work together pretty good and have a lot of years experience of just working when normal people are out enjoying life 😜 I promise I’ll get this rink going again I just can’t say when it’ll reopen. In my mind I am thinking late summer possibly early fall just like last year. Literally 1 year ago exactly I was at this point with this floor it’s harder this time because it a redo not a fresh start 😔

The 4th of July stripping job is coming along ok. Hopeful we can get it all off by tomorrow evening. The machine has to be back in Ft Worth Monday morning 8 am. I am burnt and tired … oh and very sore.

I think this machine we rented today is going to be the answer, it pulled up quite a bit just in a hour or two before dark tonight. We will see how far we get on it tomorrow.

Thinking a Strip & Sip party might be next event planned .. lol … I’ll keep ya’ll updated as we move forward this weekend stripping this back to raw concrete to start completely over. The floor will not look anything like the previous floor. If this new coating we do fails like the last one, we will just be skating on plain concrete looking at cracks and clay ball marks in the concrete. The original plan when I started on rink adventure last year was to leave the concrete plain with no coating but within 3 weeks we realized the concrete was not cleaned good at the batch plant before pouring it and it had clay and sticks mixed in it that reared their ugly heads and started leaving pot holes and then started cracking all over the pad. Then I discovered the low spot in middle that holds water that made everything worse. So then we had to find a solution since concrete company wasn’t going to step up to fix their end of problem . So Poly Aspartic seemed the best long term solution. Well I got 6 months out of that and it failed on me. I have spent several months since I shut down getting expert advice, multiple people that do this for a living looking at it. I know what caused it and Pete and I are going to do this next round ourselves so if it fails again we are not out another 14k on getting floor coated ( that never wanted to have to do in the first place ) but here I am. This is the short version of multiple levels of mishaps getting the rink floor done. It is what it is and in Gen X style we are gonna roll with the punches and figure it out and do it ourselves. That’s the Chillax’n story and I am sticking to it 😜 I think we got this and we will all be rolling again soon. I will however not allow inline skates on my floor once we open back up Chillax’n is Quads only from here on out . Maybe someone someday will step up and do a skate park style place more fitting for inliners. Chillax’n is just to small of a floor for the inlines. It’s minimum big enough for the Quad skaters. I am the Stephenville HEB version of roller rinks. Starting to think this might be Stephenville’s MO… we got one but just barely 😜
