Today, on Youth Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of the young people who stood up during the Soweto Uprising on 16 June 1976. Fifty years later, their legacy reminds us that progress is driven by those brave enough to challenge injustice and demand a better future.
As we celebrate the power of youth, we also celebrate the richness of our diversity. A truly free society is one where everyone belongs, regardless of where they come from, who they love, what language they speak, or what background they have.
Youth Day is a reminder that the fight for equality, dignity, and human rights is ongoing. There is no place for xenophobia, homophobia, discrimination, or hate. The values that inspired a generation to stand up for their rights must inspire us today to stand up for the rights of others.
At Gonana, we believe in creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued. Let us honour the spirit of 16 June by choosing empathy over fear, inclusion over division, and unity over prejudice.
The future belongs to all of us ๐โ๐พ
