So whilst we absolutely do not recommend guests bring their work on holiday, we would like to emphasise that we do appreciate those who periodically have to be on call.

If that unfortunate person is you, we’ve got you covered. Even working at the Lodge feels like a holiday … sound on for your cheerleaders who make sure you have the best company 🍃

As Spring warms the air and nature comes back to life, we celebrate the 21st opportunity to take advantage of the SANParks FREE access week. Between 07—13 September 2026, our National Parks are extending free access to all South African citizens at participating Parks. The offer of free access is strictly for standard day entry/conservation fees.

Focussing on activities directly on our doorstep, we would like to highly recommend the following activities:

Perdekop Trail, 9km
Kranshoek Coastal Day Walk, 9km
Kranshoek Picnic Site and Viewpoint (Harkerville Forest Flora Trail)
Kranshoek Mountain Bike Trails
Kranshoek Knysna Ziplines (50% off offer)
Garden of Eden (boardwalk)

The free access week does not include SANParks accommodation — BUT, this is where we can help, and we are only 400 metres from the Harkerville Forest SANParks access point! Perfect accommodation and perfectly timed.

Head to our website and BOOK NOW to take full advantage of this adventure filled week: tiltingtrees.com

Delightfully quaint, but adequately spacious. Our Little Log Cabin never fails to receive its little gasp of surprise from guests seeing it for the first time ~ we love this! This little gem is definitely the definition of ‘under promise’~‘over deliver’.

The Little Log Cabin is light, spacious and has a view of the forest from every window.

Our review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning that it’s definitely our resident Knysna Loerie’s favourite spot to visit and entertain our guests with it’s majestic beauty and presence 🍃

Managing our Guest’s Expectations: PART 4

Are there baboons?

Yes. Being perfectly situated right next to the Harkerville Indigenous Forest corridor, we are naturally in the foraging path of these loved/hated animals. They can be loud. They’re definitely cheeky and full of life. Are they in the same category as their Cape Town cousins? Definitely not.

These guys are still very wild; are weary of people and keep their distance. They definitely don’t want to sit down and have a glass of w**e with you! And we continue to work hard at keeping it this way. For the health of the ecosystem, their livelihood and the mental health of our guests, we endeavour to keep the lines of communication between them and us very clear: No trashing the cabins and no tormenting the guests!!

So far, we’re on the same page.

Now they just take their frustrations out on our trail camera instead … reminding us they can’t resist stopping in to say ‘hi’.

Managing our guest’s expectations: PART 3

Are there any snakes around?

The much anticipated question and one we know you’ve all been waiting for 🤭

So, the short answer is: Yes! Again, let’s remember we are guests in Mother Natures garden. But, we can say that most of our sightings are ones of a fleeting presence as they move through and we are only left with a little clue that they have grown and moved on.

When, on the rare occasion, we do cross paths, we can assure all our guests that we are equipped with the correct tools and means to relocate the ones who may have overstayed their welcome.

Very, very rarely are we privileged enough to witness these amazing creatures in action. So rare that we are only able to boast ONE such video in 4 years.

Being in a Forest, it goes without saying our most frequent visitor is the Boomslang. But this guy is very shy and does not hang around waiting for guests to panic. He will find a way to escape as quickly as he can. The trick is to allow him the space to do so!

Our Night Adders are easier to catch and relocate, but we rarely see these around the cabins where it’s busy.

But, the most important thing to remember is that our snakes are not actively looking to intrude where they are not wanted. We have, to date, not had to remove any snakes from our guest cabins, so as stats go, we think you’ll be just fine!

Now we are off to go touch wood 🤭😂 Good thing we have a whole forest!

❤️

Managing our Guest’s Expectations: PART 2

Are there lots of bugs there?

This one always amuses us immensely. We need our guests to understand that the forest and all its creatures were here long before us. They have been co-existing and keeping natures natural flow and the forest happy and healthy for many an age.

So, YES! Of course we have bugs. We are in the heart of nature. Do they care about you? No. They literally just want to be left alone to tend to their ecosystem. And, always remember, they are equally petrified of you as you are of them.

You are literally in your own National Geographic playground. The key is to pay attention. Observe. Respect. And leave each other alone 🤭

For that 1% of you who cannot control your freak zone and would prefer our bugs to leave you alone, please know that your hosts are nearby and will assist with pleasure to relocate the ones who don’t make your friends list.

Managing our Guest Expectations: PART 1

Do I need a 4x4 to get to you?

No, you don’t need SA’s national car to visit us! It would be fun, but not essential. Our dirt road is only 1,5km from the tarred section. As our gate is directly opposite the access road to SANParks Harkerville Forest, the road is adequately maintained by SANParks to ensure ALL visiting guests can access the area.

Does it mean you need to slow down a little? Absolutely, but we aren’t going to apologise for this. We can’t think of a better introduction to your stay with us, when slowing down and appreciating your surroundings is what we are all about. Enjoy the view and we look forward to seeing you!
