Water for Wildlife, Hope for the Future
In conservation, some of the most practical solutions can make the greatest difference.
With valued support from the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation, Muchinga Adventures has been working to establish water sources within Upper Lupande Game Management Area as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
During the dry season, natural water sources become increasingly scarce. Wildlife searching for water can move closer to villages and community areas, increasing the potential for conflict between people and animals. Strategically located water within the GMA helps wildlife remain within its natural range and reduces the pressure that brings wildlife and communities into conflict.
Working in a remote and truly wild landscape comes with its own challenges. The regular presence of lions, buffalo and hyenas around the drilling sites was a powerful reminder of the healthy wildlife populations this landscape supports — and even resulted in one drilling team withdrawing from the area.
But perseverance paid off.
We are delighted that a new water source has now been successfully established and pump tested, helping to provide reliable water where it can make a real difference.
This is conservation with a practical purpose: keeping wildlife wild, reducing pressure on neighbouring communities, and creating conditions where people and wildlife can coexist.
We are grateful to the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation for contributing towards this initiative and joining us in supporting practical, long-term solutions to human-wildlife conflict in Upper Lupande.
Water for wildlife. Hope for the future.
