Getting away to Troutbeck for a few days doesn’t only mean beautiful mountain views and a change of scenery (although yes, we understand, that’s a huge seller too). There’s actually plenty to fill your days with.

Early mornings by the lake, watching the mist lift over a cup of coffee. Horse rides through the mountains, picnics beside the water, long lunches, or finding a sunny spot and doing absolutely nothing for a while.

Have breakfast in bed one morning, head out and explore Nyanga the next, and when the day winds down, settle in somewhere warm with a drink in hand.

You can fit plenty into a few days here… or very little at all. That’s probably the best part.

Another little corner of Troutbeck brought back to life during our recent refurbishment, was our bar.

The Hare & Hound has always been an area at Troutbeck that you can count on for a fantastic evening, a good whisky and a seat you settle into for… well, far longer than you intended! So with this in mind, when it came time to give our bar a refresh, we didn’t want to change what it was, we just wanted to bring back more of its character.

Our refurb focused on rich timber, traditional tartan, warm colours and a few wonderfully mismatched chairs, giving the Hare & Hound a new lease on life, whilst still keeping it the cosy country bar feeling it was always meant to have.

So, here is her final look ~ a little refreshed, a little more colourful, but still very much the Hare & Hound.

When we began our recent refurbishment, our intention was never to turn Troutbeck into something new, it was quite the opposite.

We wanted to bring back the Troutbeck that so many people remember - the warm timber, the natural stone, our roaring fireplaces, rich fabrics and traditional details that have always seemed to belong here, amongst the beautiful mountains of Nyanga.

Over the past few months, almost every corner has been carefully considered, not by changing its character, but by bringing it back. There was something very special about the old Troutbeck, and throughout this restoration, we kept finding ourselves looking backwards for inspiration.

Sometimes progress isn’t about becoming more modern, it is about remembering what made a place special in the first place.

Welcome back to Troutbeck Resort, with the look you loved before.

A look inside our newly restored Executive Suite.

We wanted this space to feel executive, but still maintain that warm, comfortable and full of character essence that Troutbeck is known for. A place where the old stone fireplace could sit alongside beautiful timber, soft linens, warm leather and just enough of the old-world charm that has always belonged here.

With a separate lounge, plenty of space to settle in and a fireplace beside the bed, this is one of those rooms you may find rather difficult to leave.

Winter days at Troutbeck are pretty hard to beat.

Clear blue skies, green lawns, crisp air and enough sunshine during the day to make you forget just how cold it gets once the sun disappears.

… And did anyone mention the views seem to follow you wherever you go?
