Another extremely good reason to buy a pub in the Pilliga
The potential boyfriends are hirsute

The Pilliga Forest in regional NSW has become one of Australia’s most infamous “haunted” bush areas. Truckies, locals and travellers have spent decades swapping stories about weird lights, phantom creatures and things smashing vehicles in the middle of the night.

One of the strangest stories involves glowing lights supposedly following trucks through the trees at highway speeds. Witnesses describe floating orbs moving through the scrub and hovering above treelines.

Some people reckon it’s swamp gas or ball lightning. Others reckon it’s the Aboriginal “Min Min lights” — mysterious glowing lights that have been part of outback folklore for generations.

Then there’s the yowie stories.

One truck driver named Bruce Campbell claimed he pulled over after his cattle started going berserk in the trailer. He grabbed a torch, walked around the truck… and came face to face with what he described as a 10-foot-tall hairy creature standing near the road.

Which is already enough to make most people quit trucking forever.

But when he finally reached town later, he found massive damage done to the trailer, including timber ripped away more than 10 feet off the ground.

Another story describes a driver sleeping roadside who woke up to metal screeching and his trailer violently shaking. By morning the tarps had been shredded and parts of the trailer twisted beyond repair.

And this is why heaps of truckies still say:
“yeah nah, not stopping in the Pilliga at night mate.”

Our Warrumbungles are spectacular
Just sayin

The Grand High Tops trail in Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran provides access to the most dramatic volcanic plug and d**e landscape in Australia, with extraordinary spires, ridges, and rock faces of ancient volcanic rock rising from the surrounding plains.

Entry to Warrumbungle National Park costs $8 per vehicle.

Those who complete the Grand High Tops circuit in autumn when the morning light turns the volcanic rocks extraordinary shades of orange and red describe it as the finest full-day mountain walk available in any national park in New South Wales.
