Today marks 4 years since our levee broke during the 2022 floods and flooded the park.

The floods were the worst recorded since, I believe, 1974. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

It was a rough time, and we were thankful to have so much support. Getting stuck into the work to recover was hard but not compared to the mental side and the politics of it all, with who is responsible for what actions, who own the levees, etc. These issues have still not been sorted 4 years later!

In 2008 there was a flood risk assessment completed and in 2012 a flood mitigation design study completed. The main finding was that Barmah was highly vulnerable to flooding, due to much of the town being low lying. However the benefit to cost ratio was considered and the project to protect the town was deemed highly unlikely to happen in 2012, and I assume is still not being considered as likely into the future.

We have a lot of new followers here, so thought we’d share the video we made after the worst of it.

Well, seeing as it's my birthday today, I figured there's no better time to put myself in the hot seat and let you all get to know the person behind the scenes here at Barmah Bridge Caravan Park! 😂

🏕️ What's my role at the park?

Officially? Caravan park operator. Unofficially? Receptionist, bookkeeper, cleaner, social media manager, problem solver, referee, daycare attendant and whatever else the day throws at me! No two days are ever the same!

💻 Who's behind the emails and social media?

Me, myself and I! 😂 If you've ever emailed the park, sent us a message or interacted with one of our social media posts, you've been chatting with me! So if you've ever wondered who's behind all the social media nonsense... now you know!

🤫 What's something you might not know about me?

I actually have a fear of talking on the telephone! 📞😬 Phone calls give me a lot of anxiety, and I'd much rather communicate by text or email. So if you ever wonder why I love emails and messages so much, that's why!

💡 What's something you should know about me?

I'm a bit of a dreamer, but I also love taking calculated risks! I have a habit of coming up with an idea, then convincing Brad that we'll “just go and have a look" …which somehow ends with us buying a business, buying a house or selling one! 🏡🤣

Poor Brad should know by now that when I say “I've been thinking..." or “Let's just have a look", it's probably going to cost us money! 😂

But I figure life's too short to spend it wondering “what if?"

😤 What's my biggest pet peeve?

I've actually got two!

First, people who blindly believe rumours or take someone else's opinion of a person as fact without bothering to get to know them themselves. I'm a big believer in forming your own opinions about people, not borrowing someone else's!

And second, people who are turning right but don't move close enough to the centre line to let the traffic behind them get past! 😂🚗

❤️ What's one thing I can't live without?

My family! As much as they might drive me crazy sometimes, they're my everything. Brad, Ella and Casey are the reason behind everything I do, and there's nobody I'd rather share life's adventures (and chaos!) with. ❤️
