What happens when a community comes together? ✨

More than 3,500 people came to Bega for the inaugural Bega Streetlight Festival, transforming the main street into a spectacular celebration of art, food, music and light.

The event was a fantastic collaboration between the Bega Chamber, Bega Valley Shire Council and South East Arts, with support from Transport for NSW's Open Streets Program.

And we're doing it again!

To the low life losers who deliberately drove over our streetlight festival sign and then chucked a burnout on it, just to make sure it was wrecked, I hope your proud of yourself.
You are the same people that probably whinge there's nothing to do and then when someone tries to organise a family friendly event this is what you do.
There are hundreds of volunteer hours and many paid hours that go into making an event like this happen so to have this happen is very deflating.
Let's see you put up your hand and volunteer to help make the festival a success.

Innovate with nbn® Grants are now open!

Are you a regional business using technology to innovate, improve productivity or make a positive impact in your community?

The 2026 Innovate with nbn® Grants Program is now open, with $125,000 in grant funding available to support innovative regional businesses.

🏆 $15,000 for each category winner
🌟 $20,000 for the overall 2026 Innovate with nbn® Champion
📅 Applications close 12 October 2026

This year’s program features seven categories, including the new Innovation for Productivity category.

Categories include:
• AgTech & Environment
• Arts, Culture & Tourism
• Education
• First Nations Business
• Innovation for Productivity
• Plus three additional categories

And if you’ve applied before and weren’t successful, you’re encouraged to give it another go this year!

Reminder - Chamber Members – Breakfast Meeting tomorrow!

Chamber members are invited to the next Chamber meeting on Wednesday 2 September at 7:30am, at the Bega Valley Heritage Centre.

As always, the Heritage Centre does a fantastic breakfast and coffee, making it a great way to start the day and connect with fellow Chamber members.

This month’s discussion will focus on Telstra and NBN, with a timely conversation around business resilience, technology and backup options.

With a couple of outages already experienced this year, it’s a great opportunity for local businesses to learn more about keeping their businesses connected and prepared.

The community is invited to attend a public meeting in Merimbula to learn more about H5 bird flu and the response to confirmed detections across the Bega Valley.

📍 Club Sapphire, Merimbula

Representatives from NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), NSW Health and the NSW Wildlife Control Centre will provide information about H5 bird flu, the local response and what the community can do to help.

H5 bird flu has been confirmed in seabirds in Eden, Merimbula and Bermagui.

There will also be an opportunity for community members to ask questions and hear directly from the agencies managing the response.

Council has also launched a dedicated webpage with information on H5 bird flu, including what to do if you find a sick or dead bird or other wildlife.

⚠️ If you encounter sick or dead wildlife showing signs of H5 bird flu, do not touch or approach the animal. Record the location and details of what you see and report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
