Discover the Wildlife of Peppin Pines Retreat. π¦πΏ
One of the things guests love most about Peppin Pines Retreat is sharing the property with some of Australia's most iconic wildlife.
Set on 13 acres of mixed bushland and open spaces, backing directly onto the shores of Lake Eildon, Peppin Pines Retreat offers a peaceful natural environment where wildlife thrives. Some animals simply pass through on their daily adventures, while others have made the property their permanent home.
π¦ Eastern Grey Kangaroos
Our most frequent visitors! Kangaroos can often be seen grazing around the property or relaxing beneath the shade of the trees during the day. Early mornings and evenings are the best times to spot them.
𦑠Wombats
We have one or more resident wombats who call Peppin Pines home. They're naturally shy, so sightings can be rare, but keep an eye out for the distinctive burrows scattered throughout the property.
π¨ Koalas
While not seen every day, we are lucky enough to have several koalas living in the surrounding area. They can occasionally be spotted feeding in the gum trees on both our property and neighbouring land. If you're sitting quietly outside at night, you may even hear their surprisingly deep growls and calls echoing through the bush.
π¦ Echidnas
These fascinating little creatures are often seen wandering the property, particularly during winter when echidna mating season is underway. Keep your camera handyβyou never know when one might stroll past.
π¦ Wallabies
Wallabies occasionally make an appearance, although they tend to favour the nearby forested hills and quieter bush areas surrounding the retreat.
π¦ Deer
Winter brings increased deer activity, and it's not uncommon to see them sheltering beneath the pine trees or moving quietly through the more secluded parts of the property.
Birdwatcher's Paradise π¦
Peppin Pines is home to an incredible variety of birdlife throughout the year.
π¦ Cockatoos
You'll often see flocks of Galahs, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos, who particularly enjoy our pine trees. During winter, the beautiful Gang-gang Cockatoo may stop by, while on rare occasions we're treated to a visit from a Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.
Our resident Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are certainly characters! While entertaining to watch, they do have a habit of chewing timber, so we appreciate guests gently encouraging them away from the deck.
π Kookaburras
A family of kookaburras nests nearby and their unmistakable laughter can often be heard ringing across the property.
π¦
Birds of Prey
Keep your eyes on the sky for soaring Wedge-tailed Eagles and Black Kites, often seen circling overhead or perched on dead trees along the lake's edge.
π Colourful Visitors
King Parrots, Crimson Rosellas, Rainbow Lorikeets, Fairy Wrens, Magpies and Pelicans are all regular visitors, adding colour and character to the landscape.
Wildlife Watching Tips πΈ
