Kogarah Historical Society encourages the study of Australian History and promotes awareness of the history of the Kogarah Municipality.

Kogarah Historical Society, now in its 50th year, was founded in 1970 with aims:

• To encourage the study of Australian History and promote awareness of the history of the Kogarah Municipality.

• To seek to influence preservation of places of historical significance.

•To research and publish local history for the interest of our members and the wider community.

• To provide resources for historical study and research

•To undertake the collection of books, records, manuscripts and artefacts of historical significance to Kogarah

• To liaise with other societies for an interchange of information

To arrange speakers and displays, to conduct excursions to places of historical interest and to promote other social functions for the benefit of members, their friends and the general community.

Tomorrow, Sunday 1 November, there are Spring Markets in Carss Park from 10 am - 4 pm. Large crowds are expected. However, our volunteers will fight their way through and open Carss Cottage Museum as always from 1pm - 5pm on a Sunday. Do visit. Maybe you can do both, check out the stalls and then come up to the Cottage for a tranquil atmosphere, welcoming smiles and interesting exhibits. Only $5 to come in (less than the coffee probably) and children are free. See you there.

Carss Cottage Museum will be open today 1pm -- 5 pm - (summer hours even if not much like it!), Our newest publication Carss Park 1770 - 2026 is on sale for $25. Save yourself the postage/packing costs and pick one up from the Museum. We take credit cards.
If you are just coming to look at the memorabilia it is $5 entry and children are free. Our volunteers will make you welcome.

Kogarah Historical Society next event, 8 October 2026, 2pm:

Dan McAloon, local historian and author will tell us the history of the Pemberton Baths, Ramsgate. Many of our readers will remember the Baths which were on the site of the now demolished Coles at Ramsgate Beach. (Photo following is of Dan)

Place: School of Arts, Bowns Rd/Queens Ave, Kogarah
Admission: $5 includes afternoon tea.

Just to let you know that Monday at the Museum will go ahead tomorrow (28 Sept) at Carss Cottage Museum even if the weather is inclement. We will move into the Cottage if necessary.
The forecast is a bit more promising so fingers crossed and please come. Starts at 10 am, $5 entry.

Carss Cottage Museum will be open on Sunday 27 Sept from 1pm to 4pm and on Monday 28 Sept we have our bimonthly event Monday at the Museum. This starts at 10 am with morning tea in the courtyard and then we have our speaker Richard White, author and researcher who will tell us about "The real story of the Dog on the Tucker Box". There is parking available inside the boom gate (its busy now with the pool rebuild underway) $5 entry for MAM and also for the Museum on Sundays - children free.

Carss Cottage Museum will be open tomorrow, Sunday, from 1 pm To 4 pm. Today we launched our latest publication, a second edition of a book on Carss Park - written by historian and author Beverley Earnshaw OAM. It will be on sale at the Cottage tomorrow, cost $25. Children get free entry to the Museum, adults $5. If you are just buying a book, no entry fee although of course we hope you will take the opportunity to look around at all the displays. All welcome. Keep us busy!

This is our next big event and we hope to see a big crowd there. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. Enjoy afternoon tea and good company.
Lots of new material in this second edition which will be available to purchase at a cost of $25. Get your copy signed by the author on Saturday. On-line purchases will be possible after the launch through the Society website www.kogarah.historicalsociety.com.au

Carss Cottage Museum is open tomorrow, 6 September. All welcome, especially Dads for Fathers’ Day. Check out our latest acquisition, wedding dress and veil, donated by a local family. We love it. Children free, adults $5.

Carss Cottage Museum will be open tomorrow, Sunday 30 August from 1pm - 4pm. Our volunteers love visitors so do come along. Children free, adults only $5 to explore our fascinating local history. There is an added attraction this week. We have installed a free library near the entrance to the Cottage. It has been built by one of our volunteers from gifted and recycled wood and we hope you will make good use of it.

The next Monday at the Museum is on Monday 25 May starting at 10 am at Carss Cottage Museum.
After morning tea, our speaker will be Jimmy Thomson on The First Anzacs. These were the sappers ( combat engineers) and their contribution was accidentally written out of official records so went unrecorded for 100 years.
