What's On Profile
Van Walker & Creature Jones at the Coolroom
The Coolroom is presenting Van Walker in his first Castlemaine concert since his re-cent move to Central Victoria. Originally from Tasmania, he is a prolific singer/songwriter in the genres of folk, country and rock.
Jeff Lang described him as "One of the finest songwriters in the country," and his poetic lyrics are renowned for exploring a range of personal and social themes. Walker is known for his distinctive, gravelly voice and finger-style guitar playing, and
has been praised for his ability to tell compelling stories through his music and songs. In addition to his work as a musician, Walker has also collaborated with other artists
and worked as a producer and co-writer, while also fronting bands including The Living-stone Daisies, The Ferriters & The Swedish Magazines.
On the night, Walker will be showcasing songs from his latest album 'Healing De-scent," which was recorded during a break on a Canadian tour last year with mate, multi-instrumentalist and producer Chris Altmann.
Walker's music has been acclaimed by other musicians, including Mick Thomas of Weddings Parties Anything, "Another effortless classic album," and also Tim Rogers from You Am I "Messages from an unearthly time: beyond our modern tropes. I wanna live in that time."
In a very special double bill, the Coolroom are also pleased to be presenting Creature Jones (pictured).
Creature Jones is known for songs that are populated by denizens of a netherworld; they're songs about the bigger questions of life, death, love, revenge, violence and friendship: questions we all ask while going through life.
Van Walker and Creature Jones 7.30 pm Friday, June 26.
