The Bureau of Meteorology has indicated that the Paroo Shire may experience some severe weather over the next week with the potential for storms including high winds and heavy rain.
Can everyone please plan ahead and help us protect our community by:
• Securing any items in your yard that may be a flight risk, such as trampolines, outdoor furniture, roofing sheets etc.
• Assemble an emergency kit in case there is a loss of power or roads are cut. This will include food and water supplies, ensuring phones are charged and if you have a generator, you have fuel.
• Park vehicles under cover -away from trees, powerlines and creeks, and cover them with firmly tied-down blankets if hail occurs
• Unplug electrical items – including aerials and computer equipment to avoid power surge damage if lightening occurs.
• Remain off our unsealed road network to protect the road surface until the roads have had a chance to dry out. This may involve delaying a journey for a day but that extra day will help the road surface from being severely damaged.
• Do not drive on closed roads and if it is flooded forget it.
Finally, do not forget to check in with family, friends and neighbours, especially anyone who might need extra support.
Hopefully, we will not be impacted too much but if we plan ahead, we will be ready for what nature decides is coming our way.
To keep informed please sign up to the Paroo Disaster Dashboard where all road closures and other important information will be updated.
