A little piece of Tiona, captured in words. 🌅🦅
A huge thank you to Deb for sharing this beautiful poem, inspired by her recent early mornings at Tiona with her four-legged companion, Milo. 🐾
Sea Eagle
I come here to breathe.
Here I find solitude.
An ever-stretching coastline
of tranquillity, reaching to the next headland
that juts out
and majestically frames
the turquoise sea.
All is still.
All is peaceful,
except for the glistening, crashing waves
that meet the glowing golden beach.
I sit below the heavens
and tilt my gaze,
blinking in the bright light.
The sky above is
so vast —
celestial realms,
a spectacular, dreamy blue,
while angels blow bubbles,
soft cotton puffs
that drift along the endless horizon.
This is my solitude.
I thank God
for all this beauty,
for this heaven on Earth
that reminds me
to breathe in
and exhale.
Breathe in
the salty morning air.
Let everything else go.
For a moment, I am free.
Breathe in.
Exhale.
I lift my eyes up high.
There is heaven in the endless sky.
Suddenly,
a gang of greedy gulls
swoops —
a chorus of indignation
and frantic wings and squawks.
Then, circling above,
so serenely,
so secretly,
a flash of white
swoops in.
The gang of gulls
scatters.
This king of birds,
this regal creature,
commands the sky.
And I marvel
at this aviation show before me.
No human invention could match
this air show of gliding and landing.
There is no pyrotechnic display.
There are no crowds to pay.
Just me —
a witness to it all,
God’s splendour.
This magnificent sea eagle.
This solitude.
My Tiona.
Breathe in.
Exhale.
Let it all go.
From the golden glow of Seven Mile Beach to the sea eagle soaring overhead, Deb’s words capture something so special about those quiet Tiona mornings — the stillness, the salt air, the wildlife and that feeling of simply being present.
Thank you, Deb, for putting into words what so many of us feel when we wake up here. And Milo, we hope you enjoyed those morning adventures too. 💙
Find your space. Breathe it in. Let it all go.
