We’re recovering from such a fun weekend I hardly know where to start! At the beginning would make sense 😜🙌

It all kicked off on Wednesday night with a midnight paper mache volcano making session.

Then Thursday afternoon the festivities began with the 2026 Georgetown Rodeo Parade. We went with a Jurassic Park Theme for fun and had a roaring great time!

To our amazing crew - Sandra, Susan, George, Karen, Joe, Zeke, Torah & Phoebe - some of you were riding dinosaurs, some of you were dinos, one of you refused to get dressed, and one of you was a volcano erupting with chocolates - all of you are absolute favourites. Thanks for your comedic support and commitment to the parade!! (Yes I have taken the fart button suggestion on board for next year’s theme 🤔🙈)

Thanks Julie Dance for organising another stellar parade. The way you keep asking everyone year after year (even if they don’t seem interested in doing a float) is paying off! 😂🦖🙌 It’s wonderful to see so many creative participants & the competitive natures coming out.

1. If you’re heading east from Georgetown, check the sunrise time and leave just after. It can get a bit hairy when you get to those single lane stretches and can’t see a thing because the sun’s in your eyes!!

2. Download your playlist or audio book in town before you leave. There’s very minimal phone service between towns until you hit Ravenshoe so it’s worth the forward planning for some Car-Karaoke 😁🎶

3. The must try coffee spot is Pinnarendi Station Stay & Cafe between Mt Surprise and Mt Garnet. Think actually GOOD coffee, homemade cakes, biscuits, and sour cream ice cream! ☕️

We know what it’s like to be a bit stiff from driving all day. You arrive at your destination and peel yourself out of the car wondering if you’re destined to walk with a hunchback for a few days! 🙈😂

🥾The Georgetown Riverwalk is the perfect way to smooth out all those travel creases. It’s about 6km long, an hour and a half at a leisurely pace, or our recent guest best is 37:36 if you’re running.

🏃 The Riverwalk path meanders along the Etheridge River, up past the Golf Club, back along the banks of the Sandy Creek, then around past the Gregg Bethel Oval & Rodeo Grounds. The final stretch takes you uphill to the Water Tanks and downhill back to the Etheridge a river and our BnB.

This video was filmed only 100m from the BnB so you don’t have to walk far to be entertained by these playful Galahs! We have a few Galahs in Georgetown year round, but in July and August we’re graced with flocks of the fun loving flappers. Just another reason to visit soon!
