A CHANGE TO CARD PAYMENTS FROM 1 OCTOBER 2026
You may have heard that card surcharges have been removed from today.
What does that actually mean?
When you tap or use your card, you will no longer see a separate surcharge added to your purchase for eftpos, Visa or Mastercard.
But those processing costs haven’t simply disappeared.
Businesses still pay fees to accept and process card payments. The difference is that from today, businesses can no longer pass those costs directly on to customers as a separate card surcharge.
For small businesses like ours, every cost matters. Card processing fees, wages, electricity, insurance, rates, freight and the rising cost of goods all form part of the cost of keeping our doors open.
We absolutely understand that nobody likes paying extra fees, and we’re certainly not complaining about our customers choosing to pay by card. We simply wanted to explain that while the surcharge may have disappeared from the customer’s receipt, the cost of processing that transaction has not disappeared.
It is now a cost the business has to absorb and factor into its overall operating costs.
CASH IS KING!
Where possible, we would REALLY appreciate customers choosing to pay with cash.
Every cash payment helps our family business reduce card processing costs, and when you’re a small family-owned business, those little savings add up to a BIG difference.
Of course, we will always happily accept card payments, we simply ask that if you have the choice and have cash in your wallet, please consider using it.
It might seem like a small thing, but it helps our family business out HEAPS!
Thank you for continuing to stay & shop local, and support small family-owned businesses like ours.
