Here is a copy of the communication sent by GEG to each of the Greens Senators urging them to support the Improved Native Forest Management Scheme, when it is voted on in the Senate….

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which we meet and pay our respects to the Elders Past, Present and Emerging
Dear Senator,
The Gloucester Environment Group, has since 1989, been working to enhance the natural environment of Gloucester and surrounding areas by:.
• Raising awareness about environmental issues (e.g. habitat protection, climate impacts, biodiversity)
• Representing community views to councils, government bodies, or decision-makers
• Educating the public through talks, submissions, media, or online content
• Giving a voice to issues that may otherwise be overlooked
We have ourselves, planted thousands of koala friendly trees in our local area, and were delighted when the NSW government finally announced the creation of the Great Koala National Park.
The ACCUs (Australian Carbon Credits) necessary to establish the Great Koala National Park, represent an important step to secure both the cessation of native forest logging and to secure much needed conservation funding.
GEG supports the representations made by the North East Forest Alliance (NEFA), who for decades have worked tirelessly and honourably to protect our region's native forests.
However, we have been concerned and dismayed to hear that the Greens senators might be contemplating voting with the National Party to kill off the Improved Native Forest Management (INFM) scheme.
We agree that the use of carbon credits is not ideal, but it is far better than nothing - providing a practical mechanism to stop logging, finance park management and importantly excludes the coal and gas industrial offsetting.
The INFM scheme should not be defeated in the Senate.
Please do not support the National Party on this issue.
