Well it definitely was a sleep in this morning folks! The doonas are doing too good a job being 'cosy as' on a frosty morning..🥱🤗👏
Gardening on the cards today and organising for another big week at the Black Cockatoo amenities block. Tiling, doors and finishing touches in the next 2 weeks and then we should be 'operational'!
Looking forward to having a bigger tip top 'easier to clean and maintain' block of 8 loos and 5 showers (hot water, yes indeed)..🚽🚿😁

It's been quite the week for us so it'll be good to take a time out on the deck chairs!

Flashback Friday! Yes it kind of is..😃
But before we go there - we want to thank the hundreds of well wishers who've sent in their congratulations on our win in category 'Best Camping/4WD Spot Qld' on Wednesday. Our excitement is still bubbling away and we'll never forget to be grateful.🙏🏻
So it was a memorable day on 6 June 1859 when our great state started to chart its own course away from NSW by becoming an independent colony.
Tomorrow then is our chance to celebrate the unique people, places, and things that make Queensland what it is today.🎉
Hmm, how best then to describe Queensland to the uninitiated – those folk born without the maroon stripe? What exactly is it?
We're guessing to most folk the answer would seem pretty obvious - Queensland is THE state of Australia with fabulous weather and great beaches.....right?
But it’s really not that obvious, is it?
This great state is not just a place - it’s a people, a history, a climate, and even an architecture. And it’s also a mood, a feeling, a spirit, an attitude and a unique state of mind. It’s known for its political eccentrics, its down-on-the-farm conservatism, its parochial uncomplicated people and its ‘get-the-big-bulldozer’ economy and yet it certainly has produced radicals and ratbags, artists and thinkers.🫶👏
It's a crazy world out there so how good is it to be community minded - proud of yourself and your family, your friends, your community and your state..🥰

Qld Day parties are taking place all over the state with pubs, hotels and community venues joining in the celebrations. Lots to do in Brisbane including 2 big local derby matches in the NRL.. 🏈🏈

Yes it was a REALLY BIG NEWS day for us yesterday everyone!!🏆🥇🎉🎊
If you missed our post yesterday - we were thrilled and honored to receive the award from QUEENSLAND TOURISM for the 'Best Camping/4WD Spot in Qld'!
We're still so excited!☺️🤗
It's been over 40 years in the making and lots of hard continuous work and planning, but it's so worth it when you're recognised by major tourism bodies - but even more so, by the people who voted for us.
From Sue and Ian, the team and all of our many helpers - 'THANK YOU' from the bottom of our hearts..🥰🙏🏻.
We'll keep trying to improve our property and the experience of all of our guests from the youngest to the most senior - whether it's a weekend getaway by the creek or a big week in a cabin - everyone is important to us.🫶
Gordon Country endeavors to bring real and genuine getaway value with an all Australian bush feel and that will always be our goal.

Really nice to sit out in the sun after a good drop of rain last week.🌞
June 1, a new week and a new month so wishing you well for both.
Also the start of Winter and eek, the end of the financial year will be here before we know it. Oooh and the 'taxman' will be waiting with hands out and a creepy smile..😏💲💵

👉Hey happy Saturday everyone! Wintery and wet yesterday for sure, but that made it easier to avoid chores!
Sunny vibes today so it's back outdoors to catch up..😉
And while these Camping Hacks might not be on your mind this weekend - like every other well thought out 'hack', they can make life easier on your next outdoors adventure..
Probably very familiar to lots of our campers, but if you're a newby, then we hope you find something useful. 🤗

👉 Shoe organizers hung from a tree or tent pole make great storage space for small essentials like flashlights, bug spray, or utensils.
👉 Strap your headlamp around a water jug for a soft, glowing tent light.
👉 Water bottles of various sizes make great ice packs. Dual purpose of keeping food cold and providing drinkable water as they melt.
👉 Foam floor tiles are a real must in your tent (especially in winter) for a padded, warm, and clean floor—the kids will love it.
👉 Pack duct tape by wrapping it around a water bottle or trekking pole for emergency fixes.
👉 Toilet paper stored in coffee cans or zip bags will stay clean and dry.
👉 Natural repellants sage or rosemary burned in the campfire repel mosquitoes and smell amazing.
👉 Clip a tarp to trees or your car using binder clips or bungee cords for extra shade or rain cover.
👉 Glow sticks in water bottles make great nightlights or are helful in marking guy lines and pathways at night.
👉 Take a stash of cotton pads pre-loaded with petroleum jelly and store in a tin— great as waterproof fire starters.
👉 Create DIY handwashing station with a large water container + bungee cord + soap dispenser + towel.
👉 Use a hanging mesh laundry bag as a dish-drying rack.
👉 Try lining your cooler with reflective windshield shades to boost insulation and keep food cold longer.
👉 Pack spices and oils in straws or Tic Tac containers to save space when packing and in your cooking area.
👉 Set up a mini ‘camping control center’ using a folding shelf, bin, or table keeping all your essentials in one place.
👉 Use microfiber towels—they dry fast, are lightweight, and take up barely any room.
👉 Store eggs in a bottle (pre-crack them at home) for mess-free breakfasts.
👉 It helps to dry wet shoes or boots overnight by stuffing them with crumpled newspaper or dry rags.

👉CAN WE GRAB YOUR ATTENTION.. To all our incoming guests next week and visitors to the Main Range area.
We have received notification that Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be participating in an aerial baiting program coordinated by Southern Downs Regional Council, targeting wild dogs and foxes in the area.
Their advice is that baits will be distributed by helicopter along select boundary sections of Main Range National Park and Mt Dumaresq Conservation Park ON the 2nd & 3rd of JUNE.
A commercial dried meat bait will be used which is highly toxic to domestic dogs.

PLEASE keep your beloved pooches on leashes at all times if you're in that area to avoid any chance of them picking up baited food. 🐶🐾🐕🐩
