Itadakimasu (ăăă ăăžă) â A Japanese Tradition of Gratitude
Before a meal in Japan, you will often hear the word Itadakimasu (ăăă ăăžă).
It is sometimes translated as âLet's eatâ, but the meaning is a little different.
Itadakimasu is an expression of gratitude for the food we receive, the life that nourishes us, and everyone who has helped bring the meal to our table.
It's a simple way to pause and appreciate your meal.
And when the meal is finished, we say Gochisousama (ăăĄăăăăž) to express our appreciation.
At Shizuka Ryokan, this sense of gratitude is part of our approach to Japanese dining.
Next time you sit down to eat, why not try saying Itadakimasu?
