💙 MAKURU | EARLY WINTER – Season of Fertility (June & July) 🌧️

Makuru Season brings the coldest and wettest weather of the year, with winter rains, crisp mornings, and strong westerly winds sweeping across Country.

As waterways and catchments fill, the landscape is renewed and food sources shift from the coast to the land. Traditionally, this was a time for Noongar people to move inland and make use of seasonal resources, including kangaroo (Yonga), which provided both food and warm cloaks known as bookas. 🦘

Makuru is also a season of fertility, with many animals pairing up in preparation for breeding. Keep an eye out for pairs of Wardongs (ravens) flying together and the elegant Maali (Black Swan) gathering on lakes and wetlands. 🐦🦢

Across the Southwest, the blues and purples of Blueberry Lily (Dianella revoluta) and Purple Flags (Patersonia occidentalis) begin to emerge, while the delicate white flowers of the Weeping Peppermint (Agonis flexuosa) signal the approach of the next season. 💙💜🤍🌿

At Wave Rock Short Stay, we’re proud to recognise another long-standing local business helping keep Hyden and the Wheatbelt rolling — Waveline Tyres.

Established in Hyden in the late 1980s, Waveline Tyres has been part of the town for generations, with the business proudly carried through the years by Neil & Kay Aggiss, then Ashley & Karen Rogers, and now continuing with Matty Rogers & Hayley Teasdale taking the reins.

Across three generations, the families behind Waveline Tyres have done far more than tyres and repairs — they’ve been deeply involved in the Hyden community every step of the way.

👏 Neil served as a local councillor
🚒 Ashley dedicated years volunteering with FESA & St John Ambulance
⛑️ Karen has been involved with St John Ambulance
🏑 And now Matty & Hayley continue that strong community spirit through their involvement with the Karlgarin Hyden Hockey Club (KHATS), local sport, and ongoing support of community clubs and events through sponsorships and donations.

That kind of commitment says a lot about a business.

Whether it’s helping locals, rescuing travellers with tyre troubles, or answering the phone when something goes wrong, Waveline Tyres has built a reputation for genuine country service and community spirit. And if you’ve spent enough time in Hyden, chances are the Rogers family have helped you out at least once!

At Wave Rock Short Stay, we love recognising the people and organisations that help keep our community connected — and the Hyden Community Resource Centre does exactly that.

More than just a local service, the CRC is a hub for the Hyden community — supporting locals, visitors, businesses and community groups with everything from services and information to events, resources and connection.

The team work quietly behind the scenes helping make country life easier and keeping our community thriving. In small towns, places like the CRC become so much more than an office — they become a meeting place, support network, and a familiar face when help is needed.

SUPPLIER SPOTLIGHT | OUTBACK SEPTIC WHEATBELT WA 🚛

At Wave Rock Short Stay, we love recognising the people and businesses that help make our community stronger — and Tremar Contracting & Outback Septic WA Wheatbelt , run by Trev & Mareese from Corrigin, are a perfect example.

Known for their reliable service and willingness to help wherever needed across the Wheatbelt, Trev and Mareese are also giving back in a huge way this year by sponsoring the fees for all junior football players in the EDFL because, as they say:

🏉 “All kids should have the opportunity to play sport.”

It’s businesses and people like this that help country communities thrive — supporting local kids, families, and the future of regional sport right across communities like Corrigin and Hyden.
