Well, as an end of month update, it’s “yippee” as RACQ arranged for the plumbing to be completed upstairs versus a portable bathroom brought to site! Details in comments:

Hi Villa Veron Bed and Breakfast fans
It has been a huge month since the 2025 Flood in North Queensland, Australia!

Post the water subsiding, it was confronting to see we had water in the ground floor! And we are now looking at the shell of our home with so much of the internal infrastructure gutted.

I have to think of this old girl as getting a major surgery!! Seeing her in such a state is overwhelming to say the least!!

With the help of family we moved quickly to salvage furniture, artwork, vintage linen, and so much more!! The smell of the bleach wreaked every space but it was all we could do to try and preserve what we could and buy time to move the ground floor contents to higher and safer ground.

With no electricity for nearly a week and gross levels of heat and humidity, it felt like an unwinnable battle at times!!

So now we have reached the end of the first chapter! One month in, we are living upstairs, and working out a sense of order to make the months ahead more pleasant!

I will endeavour to upload photos over the coming days, and eventually touch base at the end of each month with an update.

Our biggest concern atm is preserving the integrity of the floors if it is possible. We have been told the flooring is undoubtedly original making it almost 100 years old! Likely “Spotted Gum”, tongue and groove, narrow dark floorboards!

Given the gentleman who commissioned her construction was the wealthiest farmer in the district at that time, and built the house so his 4 daughters needn’t live at the farm, but in their beautiful house in town, I am sure he wanted nothing but the best for them!!

So cheers to bringing her back from this!!

And given the handmade tiles in the foyer continue to thrive, I hold a beautiful vision for what lies ahead in her recovery!!

Please keep her in your prayers and your heart 💓
