Kakadu National Park is managed jointly between Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. Caring for Country extends beyond the physical land to encompass interconnected elements like plants, animals, winds, waters, spirits, skies, feelings, stories, and humans. From an Indigenous perspective, everything is intricately linked across deep time - a connection symbolised by the string known as Country. We see this in practice today as the Parks team use traditional land management techniques such as patchwork burnings to ensure country is being looked after.

πŸƒ Patchwork burning typically happens in the early dry season between May - June.

Every 17 June, World Crocodile Day shines a light on one of nature's greatest survivors, and the conservation work that keeps wild crocodile populations healthy and protected. 🐊

At Yellow Water Billabong, crocodiles aren't a sideshow - they're central to a thriving wetland ecosystem. Our guides share the biology, behaviour and cultural significance of these remarkable animals on every cruise, so guests leave with a genuine understanding of why they matter.

Yellow Water Villa's - Kakadu's most luxurious eco accommodation sits quietly beneath a rich canopy of trees, right alongside Yellow Water Billabong; one of the most biodiverse wetlands on Earth. Each Villa is built on stilts so as to leave the ancient land beneath them undisturbed, as the Murumburr Traditional Owners who care for this Country have always intended.
Step inside and the billabong comes with you. Reclaimed native timbers, earthen clay, ageing brass and woven grass fibres bring the landscape indoors. Every artwork on the walls has been sourced from local Bininj artists - each one carrying a story from the oldest living culture in the world.
And when the day winds down, there's an outdoor bathtub on your private veranda, a sky full of stars, and the sounds of Yellow Water doing what it has done for thousands of years.

Fancy a mud bath? This guy's been living his best life on the banks of Yellow Water Billabong long before wellness retreats were a thing. 🐊
Saltwater crocodiles are the ultimate Yellow Water Billabong regulars here - basking, waiting, and watching from the muddy banks while the rest of the billabong goes about its business.
Come see them up close on a Yellow Water Cruise, one of Kakadu's most iconic experiences.

Part of the Yurmikmik walks, it's a 7.5km return trip to.... Motor Car Falls.
This small pristine waterfall is wurrounded by monsoon forest and remains one of Kakadu’s hidden gems despite being heavily photographed and featured in travel magazines for its beauty.

What do you think? Is it going on your Kakadu 'Must Do' list?

Can we let you in on one of Kakadu's best-kept secrets? 🀫
Ikoymarrwa, also known as Moline Rockhole, is a shady, freshwater swimming spot with falls that flow through the early dry season (April to June). It's a short walk from the carpark, beautifully peaceful, and the kind of place that doesn't always make the highlight reel, which means you often have it almost to yourself.

Bring your snorkel. There are fish to spot beneath the surface, and if the stars align, you might glimpse a warradjan - the pig-nosed turtle that calls these waters home. 🐒
