The girls are certainly happy to have their leafy canopy back! 🌿🐓

As the warmer months return to Figbrook Farm, our fig grove is bursting back into life, with beautiful green leaves providing plenty of shade and the promise of another abundant season of delicious figs.

Our happy hens play an important role in the farm's permaculture system, scratching and foraging beneath the trees, helping to keep insect pests under control and naturally enriching the soil along the way.

In return, they enjoy a wonderful life roaming beneath the figs, while providing us and our guests with the most gorgeous fresh farm eggs.

It's a beautiful little cycle of nature, and one of the many things we love about life here at Figbrook Farm.

Kindness grows here. 🌿

Sometimes the most meaningful words about a place come from those who experience it. ❤️

We received this beautiful review from Bianca following her recent stay aboard our historic train carriage.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“We loved our stay onboard the historic train carriage. I wouldn’t change a thing! The train & gardens are even more beautiful than they look in the photos & Glenn has thought of everything to make a stay at Figbrook Farm enjoyable & easy from start to finish. The train carriage is not only unique & quirky, it’s perfectly comfortable, spotlessly clean, very private & feels like a window to a different time. I swear I could hear it going clickety-clack as I walked down the hallway to the bedroom & I wouldn’t have been surprised if we had woken up somewhere else in the morning (not that I would have wanted to!). Glenn’s dedication to good old fashioned hospitality & his thoughtful stewardship of the property is inspiring and evident in every detail, from the chickens to the permaculture farm, to the preservation of heritage trees & the train itself. You can see & feel the thoughtful care, hard work & love he has invested in regenerating & preserving the train & the land. ❤️❤️🙌”

Thank you, Bianca, for seeing and appreciating so much of what makes Figbrook Farm special. Your beautiful words mean more than you could know.

You may have seen the words “Kindness grows here” alongside Figbrook Farm. 🌿

They reflect the care that goes into this small patch of the Riverland, and everything that shares it.

It’s in the soil beneath the fig trees, the hens wandering through the orchard and the bees working among the blossoms. It’s in making room for wildlife, caring for established trees and growing food while supporting the life around it.

That care extends to the history of the property, too. The gardens, the old railway carriage and the traces of earlier lives here are part of its story, and are cared for along the way.

For guests, it means a warm welcome, thoughtful little touches and space to slow down. Somewhere to feel comfortable, enjoy the garden and simply be yourself.

A small farm can grow more than food. It can offer shelter, bring people together and make room for nature to thrive.

That’s what “Kindness grows here” means at Figbrook. A way of caring for a place, and the lives it touches. 💚

Some weekends remind us why we do what we do. 🌿

This weekend at Figbrook Farm has been one of those.

We've had the absolute pleasure of welcoming some truly wonderful guests, whose kindness, warmth and genuine interest have meant more to us than they probably realise.

It's always lovely when people appreciate the gardens, the accommodation and the little things that make Figbrook special. But there's something particularly touching about guests who take the time to get to know the people behind it all. Not just what we do each day, but our stories, the challenges, the laughter and the dreams that continue to shape this place.

This morning, walking through the farm, sharing stories beneath the trees and enjoying conversations that went well beyond the usual hellos and goodbyes, we were reminded just how special these connections can be.

So much of life here is spent with our heads down and our hands full, tending to the gardens, caring for the animals and looking after all the little things that make Figbrook what it is.

Then along come people who remind us to look up for a moment and appreciate what we're creating.

To our wonderful guests this weekend, thank you for your kindness, your curiosity and, most of all, for taking the time to get to know us.

We hope you've taken home some lovely memories of Figbrook, because you've certainly left us with some of our own.

Kindness grows here. ❤️

Our little patch of the Riverland 🌿

When we first arrived in 2023, we found an old South Australian Train Carriage, a beautiful fig orchard, established gardens and an enormous amount of work ahead of us.

Three years later, Figbrook Farm has grown into an agritourism business, welcoming guests from across Australia to experience a little Riverland bliss.

Our Train Carriage and Garden Cottage are welcoming visitors, the orchard is thriving, and one of our greatest rewards has been sharing this special place with the wonderful people who've stayed with us.

We're also exploring opportunities to bring more of what we grow to the wider community. Flowers, herbs, fresh eggs, figs and whatever else the seasons bring, while navigating the region's fruit fly restrictions and working towards responsibly bringing our produce to market.

Beyond tourism, our journey has developed into something equally meaningful: uncovering the property's history and protecting its remarkable natural environment.

Historical surveys, irrigation records and conversations with long-term residents are taking us back to the early agricultural settlement of Kingston on Murray, historically known as Thurk, and the surrounding Moorook district.

The old gates, Mallee post-and-rail fences, established orchard and remnants of earlier farming activity offer fascinating glimpses into the generations who worked this land. Local memories of extensive fruit growing, citrus orchards and a plant nursery are helping us piece together its past.

Some of our magnificent old trees, including rare varieties and native species, have survived decades of change. Today, they provide valuable habitat, food and shelter for the extraordinary wildlife that shares this property with us.

Restoring native vegetation, encouraging biodiversity and safeguarding these established trees are central to our vision for Figbrook. We're particularly committed to protecting and improving habitat for threatened and endangered species, including the Regent Parrot, alongside the many native birds, pollinators and other wildlife that depend on healthy ecosystems.

Our South Australian Train Carriage is another connection to the region's remarkable past. Built in 1915, it represents an era when steam locomotives and the expanding railway network helped shape regional communities, connecting agricultural producers with markets and supporting the development of towns across South Australia. More than a century later, our carriage continues its journey in a very different way, welcoming visitors to experience the Riverland.

A special thank you to the wonderful team at Berri Barmera Library for their assistance with our research, and to everyone who has generously shared their knowledge, photographs and memories.

We're proud to be building an agritourism business that celebrates our region, supports the preservation of its agricultural heritage and contributes to the conservation of its precious natural environment.

As the orchard bursts into new spring growth, we're reminded that caring for this special place means respecting its past, protecting its natural environment and helping shape its future.

Do you have memories of this little corner of the Riverland?

If you grew up around Kingston on Murray or Moorook, remember the old Train Carriage, have family connections to the historic Thurk settlement, or have photographs and stories of the area, we'd love to hear from you.

Every memory could help us uncover another chapter of Figbrook Farm's story. We'd love to hear from you, either through a private message or at [email protected] 💚

There’s something rather special about this patch of the Riverland. 🌿

Figbrook Farm is our home, but first and foremost it’s a working farm, with an established fig orchard, gardens filled with life and a place for growing food, keeping hens and bees, encouraging wildlife, preserving a little history and welcoming people from across Australia through the gates.

Tucked amongst it all is our 1915 Train Carriage, still here more than a century after it was built and now giving travellers a rather different way to experience the Riverland, alongside our Garden Cottage.

We’ve put an enormous amount of care into this farm, always with the same idea in mind: to work with what was already here, nurture it and create a place where nature, history and genuine country hospitality can quietly coexist.

It’s lovely to see Figbrook becoming recognised beyond our front gates, while still remaining exactly what we want it to be.

There is still so much we want to do here.

For now, we’ll just keep tending the gardens, growing the figs, caring for this beautiful patch of South Australia and sharing it with those who come through our gates.

Kindness grows here. 💜🌿

Spring is beginning to unfold across the farm.

There’s a change in the weather rolling towards the Riverland tonight, so we’re keeping everything crossed that the blossoms hold on.

It’s a beautiful time of year to stay, wander the gardens and see what’s coming into bloom. 🌸
