Day Trip from Lakes Entrance: Spend a Day Exploring Orbost

Looking for somewhere to explore beyond Lakes Entrance this spring?

Jump in the car and head east to Orbost, around a 45-minute drive from Beachcomber Holiday Units.

Set beside the Snowy River and surrounded by beautiful East Gippsland countryside, Orbost makes an easy day trip with a lovely mix of history, nature and good old-fashioned country-town exploring.

- Start with a wander through Forest Park, where you'll find the historic Slab Hut dating back to the 1870s.

- Take some time to enjoy the Snowy River and the surrounding parklands.

- Head into town for a coffee, browse the local shops and stop for lunch at one of Orbost's cafés, bakeries or pubs.

If you feel like exploring a little further, continue towards the coast and discover some of the beautiful countryside and waterways surrounding Orbost.

Then enjoy the scenic drive back to Lakes Entrance after a day of exploring another little corner of East Gippsland.

🐨Go Koala Spotting on Raymond Island!

Looking for a great day trip while you're staying in Lakes Entrance? Add Raymond Island to your East Gippsland itinerary.

Around a 50-minute drive from Beachcomber Holiday Units will take you to Paynesville, where you can leave the car behind and take the short **passenger ferry across to Raymond Island – for free!** ⛴️

Then the fun begins… looking up!

Raymond Island is well known for its population of wild koalas, and wandering beneath the gum trees trying to spot them is such a lovely experience.

On our own visit, we counted an incredible **16 koalas**! Some were curled up asleep high in the trees, while others were much easier to spot. 🐨

The island is also home to plenty of other wildlife and birdlife, so take your time, keep your eyes open and enjoy exploring at a relaxed pace.

Once you've finished your walk, catch the ferry back to Paynesville and stop for lunch, a coffee or a wander along the waterfront before making your way back to Lakes Entrance.
