Twenty years ago, a dream quietly opened its doors.
On 21st June 2006, Varenna welcomed its very first guests and became the beginning of what would eventually grow into Mountain Whispers.
At the time, there was no collection of luxury properties, no roadmap for what lay ahead, just a passion for beautiful historic spaces, heartfelt hospitality, and the creation of memorable experiences in the Blue Mountains.
Varenna was the first chapter. A lovingly restored mountain retreat where guests could slow down, reconnect, celebrate special moments, and create lasting memories. Over the years, thousands of guests have walked through its doors, each becoming part of the Mountain Whispers story.
Looking back, it's hard to imagine that one cottage would grow into what Mountain Whispers is today. Yet every milestone, every renovation, every challenge and every success can be traced back to where it all began.
As we celebrate 20 years of Mountain Whispers, we're taking a moment to honour Varenna - the property that started it all and the dream that became reality.
