Guess what?

We’ll be closing from tomorrow due to the rain forecast!

Twice in one month. TWICE.

After a few pretty decent years, the taps turned off around October and things have been getting drier by the week.

So seeing rain on the forecast still feels a bit like finding money in an old jacket pocket.

We’re certainly not complaining. (Yes, I know. Unheard of from a farmer. 😂)

At this stage we’re planning to reopen Friday, provided Mother Nature doesn’t get too enthusiastic and turn our access road into a slip and slide.

If you’re travelling this week, keep an eye on road conditions and stay safe.

As for us, we’ll be happily watching the rain gauge, pretending not to check it every twenty minutes, and messaging the neighbours to see if they’ve had more than us.

A quick guide to whether Carinya is your sort of place:

Do you need a camp kitchen, green grass and neighbours close enough to borrow a cup of sugar?

Probably not for you.

Do you enjoy a campfire, a bit of dust, a sky full of stars and enough room to forget what day it is?

Now we’re talking.

We’re a working farm in western NSW.

Not everyone gets it.

And that’s OK.

Our people do.

One day you’re just a big old dried up cow poo in the paddock minding your own business…

The next you’re a critical piece of farm infrastructure.

Life comes at you fast.

People spend a lot of time chasing happiness.

We’ve narrowed it down to a fairly random list:

✔ Rain

✔ Decent coffee

✔ Full dams

✔ Really funky sock savers 😜

✔ Calves

✔ Campfires

✔ Guests who don’t mind a bit of dust

✔ Finding the TV remote

We have more luck finding feral pigs than the TV remote. True story.

See those clouds?

Hughie is predicting 30 to 60mm over the next few days and honestly… that’s huge for us.

It’s so darn dry out here and rain like this is desperately needed.

The downside? Dirt roads and rain aren’t exactly best mates, so we’ll be closed through until at least Friday while we wait and see what rolls in.

In the meantime, we’re calling on everyone to pull out their best:
- rain dance moves.
-Lucky un**es,
-cloud summoning,
-backyard ceremonies…

Anything really - we’re not proud at this point.
