Our recent rainfall provided an opportunity for some fun exploring on our bush property and next door in the National Park, watching all the little creeks and waterfalls flowing and some magical moments!

“Sound on! 🔊Time for a guessing game!
What’s making this sound at Kookaburra Creek Bush Retreat? It’s something in the night, hence the dark video and only ever heard at night, and only very occasionally! We’ve heard it about 3 times in the 15 years we’ve lived here. It’s puzzled us and taken us quite a few years to work it out (with a bit of help.) After a few failed guesses I’ll give another clue!😃

After such a wet & wild week we were pretty lucky to snag a few gorgeous days of sunshine for the long weekend! Such a great time to get out and explore the Southern Flinders Ranges! 💧65.5mm rain recorded here this past week. Kookaburra Creek is looking a Winter wonderland! 💚

Mount Remarkable you really are something special! I love your ever changing moods controlled by the shifting weather. The way you can quickly transform from bathing in sunshine with that golden glow that catches my eye, to dancing shadows and woolly rolling thunder clouds.

We spotted this healthy looking Boobook tonight. 🦉Living on a bush property you get to experience some pretty awesome things.
I absolutely love hearing Owls, Tawny Frogmouth’s and Owlets Nightjars calling at night out the bedroom window, along with frogs after rain. It’s such a great sign of a healthy ecosystem and makes me feel so happy to know we can provide a habitat for them here at Kookaburra Creek.
Have you heard some amazing night life here at Kookaburra Creek during your stay, and wondered what it was? 🐸🦆🦊🦌🦉🦇🦘
I remember my first camp trip to Melrose many years ago and hearing a possum just outside my tent for the first time, having no idea what it was! 😳🫣😬

A weekend for hiking, exploring, listening to gentle rain on the roof and taking in the natural beauty that surrounds us.
We can’t wait for you to make Kookaburra Creek your base and experience what we love about this part of the country in the Southern Flinders Ranges!
Alligator Gorge was a highlight of the weekend. It’s fascinating to see the land healing after last year’s bushfires. In a week or two I’d love to go back to see the Running Postman blooming. There were carpets of them with tiny red flower buds along the top of the 10km Ring Route.🌺
