Tales from Northcliffe Holiday Park
THE GREAT CARAVAN DIVORCE β SPONSORED BY REVERSING and Occy, our resident parking inspector!
They say the secret to a happy marriage is love, patience, understanding and good communication.
Clearly, whoever came up with that advice has NEVER reversed a caravan. π
There's something quite magical about watching a happy couple arrive at a caravan park.
They're smiling. They're laughing. They're looking forward to a relaxing weekend away.
Ten minutes later, they're considering separate holidays.
It starts innocently enough.
"Righto, love, just jump out and guide me back."
And just like that, one becomes the driver, the other becomes the self-appointed Director of Ground Operations, and the marriage enters a whole new phase.
"LEFT!"
"I AM GOING LEFT!"
"NO! YOUR OTHER LEFT!"
"THERE IS NO OTHER LEFT!"
"STOP! YOU'RE TOO CLOSE TO THE TREE!"
"I CAN SEE THE BLOODY TREE!"
"THEN WHY ARE YOU DRIVING TOWARDS IT?!"
Meanwhile, the neighbouring campers have all suddenly found very important jobs to do outside.
One's polishing the BBQ.
Another's checking the tyre pressure.
Someone else has been adjusting the same guy rope for fifteen minutes.
Nobody's watching, of course. π
We're all just deeply interested in campsite maintenance.
Eventually, after seventeen attempts, a three-point turn that became a twelve-point turn, and one person dramatically announcing, "FINE! DO IT YOURSELF!", the caravan is finally parked.
Silence.
Beautiful, peaceful silence.
Until someone says...
"You're a bit crooked."
π₯ AND WE'RE OFF AGAIN!
But here's the wonderful thing about caravanning.
Give that same couple half an hour, two camping chairs, a cold drink and a crackling campfire, and suddenly they're back to being the happiest couple in Australia.
Well, almost.
Someone will still bring up the tree.
Probably at Christmas.
Here at Northcliffe Holiday Park, we understand that reversing a caravan isn't simply parking.
It's a relationship endurance test with a towball.
So whether you're a seasoned traveller or still working out who's allowed to give directions, come and enjoy a little peace and tranquillity in our beautiful Southern Forests.
And if you hear someone shouting "LEFT! NO, YOUR OTHER LEFT!" across the campground...
Don't panic.
It's not an emergency.
It's just another happy couple arriving for their relaxing holiday. π
