The Kona🏡
Built in the early 1960s, the house was originally known as ‘Lloyd’s House’, after Graham and Kath Lloyd lived there with their three children. After they left the farm, it later became the ‘Bay Bunkhouse’, offering simple accommodation for backpackers, with bunk beds, and a wood stove, often accommodating around 10 guests.

Following a complete renovation, the house was renamed ‘Kona’, after a shipwreck that ran aground in the early 1900s. The ship’s keel can still be seen at Red House Bay today.

With a new kitchen, extended deck, two bathrooms and a spa bath, Kona began welcoming guests seeking a more comfortable island escape and has remained a popular holiday rental ever since.

Before it was Shylie’s, it was a small building to accommodate farm workers 🌿

Originally built by Andy’s grandmother and her second husband, Kenneth Wills, the small two-room building was designed to accommodate farm workers, including shearers and other seasonal workers.

Over time, it became a place for family to stay, shylie spread a beautiful energy throughout the retreat. It was doubled in size and given a bathroom, kitchen, slow-combustion wood fire and an extended deck. At the time, it was known as ‘Curlew’.

As Shylie grew older and could no longer visit Kangaroo Island as often, the property was renamed ‘Shylie’s Retreat’ in her honour. Since around 2023, it has welcomed guests looking for a peaceful stay surrounded by the beauty and history of the farm.
