6 September 2026.
Today I was sitting on the edge of my risen garden weeding minding my own business. I heard a humming noise that caught my attention. I turned around and look what caught my eye. I apologise for the quality of the video a combination of old age and excitement of seeing the big girl in my native bee garden. She put on a real show for me was not one bit worried about my presence returning four times. Her nest must be close. You can see my videos I'm no Lisa Warman or Donna Sanders.
I must thank Bob Smith for giving me the plant. I have no idea the name of the plant.

Had a big week this week.
During the week I conducted two separate native bee information sessions at the Lighthouse School Kindy to an enthusiastic group of students. Had some good questions from the students. They were very interested in my viewing hive, taking turns at placing their ears against the hive entrance listening to the humming coming from the hive. Just seeing the smiles on their faces. Some of the questions asked by the students, shows there were a few future Meliponists in the room with their interest and knowledge of bees in general.
Ending this morning with an information session at Sunny Ridge Nursery Gracemere. Spreading the word on the keeping of stingless native bees and the planting of plants in the garden to encourage solitary native bees to visit the garden.
A very enjoyable week!

5 September 2026.
Attended Sunny Ridge Nursery this morning. Conducted an information session on basic native bee keeping. Had a full house of 50 attendees. 3 attendees travelled from Condamine, over 400kms to attend. A very interested group who provided input into the session.
Joe from Sunny Ridge Nursery provided the plant in the photo, he advised me that there were 100's native bees on the flowers of the potted plants in the nursery this morning. Another plant to add to your garden.
With the amount of interest in native bee keeping there maybe another session in the future.
If Gracemere and Rockhampton people are looking for native bee attracting plants call out to Sunny Ridge Nursery and talk to Joe and his friendly helpful staff. They will certainly point you in the right direction.
Also while you are onsite ask about the non-alcoholic fruit wine. There are some great flavours.
Thanks Joe for the invitation.
It was a great day.

Yesterday doing inspections getting ready for spring when the weather warms up. Checking out a few hives for splitting. Surprised to see what I found. Photos show top section of the brood chamber is full of pollen, no room for brood at all. This is the first time I've found the over storage of pollen in the top brood chamber. I have had several hives with the bottom section of the brood chamber overloaded with pollen. I removed the pollen, see if the brood now extends up into the top section. I'm at a loss how to prevent it. Does anybody have any idea how to prevent this happening?

Day 2 of National Native Bee Conference in Cairns. I was lucky to catch up with one of the legends of the native bee industry Bob Luttrel. Better known as Bob the Bee man. Bob is known for his invention of the 3D printed honey super and then the honey spinner to suit.
Bob took native bee honey to another level with his honey super.

Bright sunny day here in Rockhampton today. All the bees were out and about. I placed a small about of native bee wax outside the entrances of each hive.
Look at the reaction.
