Oh, how good it is to see some decent rain! 🌧️🌿

I’ve been enjoying a wander around the property, discovering little surprises that weren’t there before.

New waterfalls trickling over the granite. Fresh growth appearing through the bushland. The earth finally looking a little more content after a drink.

And perhaps best of all, the timing couldn’t have been better for the native plants I’ve recently planted. It’s lovely to think they can settle into their new home with some natural moisture in the ground.

There’s a different feeling to the bush after rain. The air feels fresh, the colours seem deeper, and familiar walking tracks reveal something new.

It’s a reminder that nature doesn’t need much encouragement to get on with things. Sometimes, it just needs a little water. 💚

I love that about this region.

Behind the cellar doors and beautiful landscapes is a farming community producing an incredible range of food — fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, honey, mushrooms, cheese and plenty of other local products.

Agriculture is an important part of what makes the Granite Belt what it is, and one of the nicest ways to experience that is to get out and explore it for yourself.

The Southern Downs & Granite Belt Food Map makes it easy to discover the farms, producers, markets, shops, cafés and restaurants where you can buy, taste and enjoy local produce.

You might think you're just out enjoying the spring sunshine…

Meanwhile, the locals are busy with breakfast.

No booking required.
No dress code.
Apparently the bush buffet is open.

One of the lovely things about staying somewhere immersed in nature is that there’s always something going on if you stop and look.

You just have to notice.

And occasionally, mind your own business while someone else has breakfast. 😂

In the trees.
Along the tracks.
Among the rocks.
And sometimes, right beneath your feet.

The Granite Belt has started putting on its spring colours — from delicate blossoms to bursts of purple, red, orange and gold.

You just have to slow down enough to notice.

Perhaps that's one of the lovely things about spring here. There’s no grand announcement. Just little signs appearing all around you, waiting to be noticed.

So next time you're walking through the bush, look a little closer.

There’s a new reason to stop and smell the flowers in Stanthorpe, with the Granite Belt Flower Association shop now open in town.

What makes it particularly lovely? The flowers are locally grown, celebrating the seasons and the growers who know this region so well. 🌸

And if you’d like to add something special to your stay at 31 The Rocks, I can arrange for a beautiful locally grown arrangement to be waiting in your villa when you arrive.

Opening up the land for nature’s guests. 🌿🐾

The fire has passed, the landscape is changing — and the locals are already exploring.

This little echidna was spotted making its way through an area recently affected by a cool burn.

What might look bare and blackened at first is simply another chapter in the life of the bush.

New growth will emerge.
Insects will return.
And, as always, the wildlife will find its way back in.

Nature has a way of beginning again. 🌱
