The Festival of the Winds returns to Bondi Beach on Sunday 13 September 2026, bringing spectacular kites, live entertainment, workshops, rides, animals, food and free family fun to the Eastern Suburbs. It runs from 11am to 4pm with activities spread across Bondi Park and Bondi Pavilion.

Over 40,000 people are expected on the day, so leave the car at home. Additional bus services run between Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach, and extra trains run between Central and Bondi Junction from 10am. Arrive early, find your patch of grass, and look up.

From giant show kites that dominate the horizon to intricate handmade creations and high-flying stunt kites, there is genuinely something happening at every level, in the sky and on the ground.

Tucked away in a hidden location just off the main Bondi strip, there is a speakeasy bar that has built its reputation almost entirely on word of mouth. Cosy and sophisticated, with a vintage atmosphere and a cocktail menu that takes its craft seriously, it is the kind of place that rewards the people who go looking for it.

It is not the sort of bar that needs a sign out front. Ask a local, find it yourself, and order slowly.

Bondi has plenty of places to drink. Very few of them feel like a genuine discovery.
