The Terminus Hotel is an iconic pub located on the corner of Harris and John Streets in Pyrmont NSW. The hotel was opened in 1917 (there was an earlier Terminus) and was located at the point where the tram service terminated, hence the name. The hotel was bought by Isaac and Susan Wakil around 1984 and subsequently closed in 1985, boarded up and left in an unfortunate state of ongoing neglect. Pri
or to purchase by the Wakils, the hotel was owned by Bob McElwaine who's son Phil won the boxing middleweight gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. As can be seen from the pic of the hotel flyer, the pub had a pretty vibrant live music scene which is something that has sadly largely disappeared in Sydney. It would be great to see the Terminus Hotel open again and become an active part of the Pyrmont landscape. For now it provides inspiration to painters and photographers and and air of mystery for everyone else. The Terminus Hotel is a classic example of 'demolition by neglect' which is the subject of a petition directed at the City of Sydney Council.
