🌌 WHILE THE WORLD SLEPT… THE SKY CAME ALIVE and what a spectacular show she put on over Coodlie Park last night 😍

From 2:00am to 6:02am, the Aurora Australis danced across our dark skies, painting the horizon in brilliant rays with the Milky Way and thousands of stars watching on 🌌

FOUR HOURS of chasing the Southern Lights condensed into one magical 40 second timelapse....these are the nights that make the 2am alarms and lack of sleep absolutely worth it!!! 🎥✨

Aurora chasers, keep your cameras ready, according to the Glendale there is currently an ACTIVE SUBSTORM, with promising solar wind conditions developing ahead of tonight's darkness, and for us at Coodlie if these dreaded clouds blow away 🌬☁️

WHAT'S HAPPENING UP THERE?
The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) has been showing excellent conditions for the past 2 hours.

⚡ IMF Strength: Up to 7.6 nT
🧲 Bz: Down to -5.9 nT (southward)
🌌 Active Substorm: Currently underway!
These are encouraging conditions for auroral activity, particularly with the southward Bz helping energy enter Earth's magnetic environment.

☀️ CME INCOMING and RUNNING LATE!!
NOAA has indicated that the incoming Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is running behind schedule, with an estimated Earth arrival around 11:30pm tonight, but could be sooner or later, as there is no set Aurora times!

If the CME arrives with favourable magnetic conditions, we could see an increase in geomagnetic activity overnight.

👀WILL WE SEE AURORA TONIGHT?
TASMANIA: Aurora may be visible through cameras after dark if current conditions hold.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA: Keep watching for further developments! Stronger activity may improve our chances of capturing a glow along the southern horizon.

REMEMBER: Substorms can be short-lived, and conditions can change rapidly. What's happening now may not necessarily continue after dark.
