Levels looking much healthier this morning at thank goodness 🙏 And we are feeling reassured by the decisions that we made back in 2016 when we built the first prototype tent. We had purchased the property in 2007 and spent years clearing feral growth. This period gave us the time to observe the river patterns and check the flood levels. And we used basic Year 10 geometry and cardboard theodolites to estimate the height of the paddock opposite us on the bend of the river, relative to the height of our embankment. We estimated that the crest of our embankment was higher and that once that height was reached, most of the water would swing away from us anyway, taking the shorter swing around the bend. The skeletons of dead sheep from earlier floods that we had found amongst the overgrowth on the embankment seemed to support this hypothesis. Since then, every time that we have had a flood, it has reached the same point (just enough for us to think “ #*¥! Hope we are right again!”) and then stabilises there. 😅

Update us looking very dicey. Floodwater is very close to the tents and lodge at If the water goes right across the paddock at Triffit’s Loop opposite us, we are in big trouble. Not that we can do anything because the roads both sides of the river between New Norfolk and Gretna are cut, so we can’t even get out there. Thank you to all the wonderful neighbouring properties that are trying to keep us posted! Thanks to everyone once again for their well wishes …. We think that we will just have another coffee and some comfort food while we watch and wait!

Our wonderful neighbours up the hill are keeping us posted on the floods at Truffle Lodge. We will have lost the river pontoon and the water pump probably, but so far the tents are ok! Thanks for all the well wishes.
