We’re loving digging into Wellington Caves history!

James Sibbald was the first official caves guide at Wellington, leading the first guided tour in 1878. He was appointed caretaker of the caves by Department of Mines in 1885 and moved into the Caretaker’s Cottage in 1888. Sibbald’s Cottage still stands and although it’s closed to the public at present, we have exciting plans for its future.

Visit us and become a part of Wellington Caves history – like the visitors in this classic photo with James Sibbald.
