Meet Banks, everyone! 🐮❤️
chose the name Banks after Banksia Chalet. It’s strong, Scottish-sounding, and dignified - perfect for a young bull. Hollie, we look forward to welcoming you for a weekend stay! Thank you everyone who entered the competition to name our new calf.
We named our three chalets after the famous West Australian woodland trio ~ Banksia, Peppermint and Tuart. If you walk through the bush near Perth or Busselton, you’ll see all three growing together.
While Tuart and Peppermint are Western Australia natives, Banksias can be found everywhere in Australia. They were named after Sir Joseph Banks, the English botanist and naturalist aboard Captain James Cook’s famous 1768–1771 voyage.
The towering Tuarts create a canopy. The Peppermint trees and Banksias trees grow beneath them, creating habitat and food for native animals, like the endangered western ringtail possum.
In honour of young Banks we will plant a Banksia tree and maybe in a year or two you can spot it! Our bees, honeyeaters and wattle birds will love the nectar 💛
