Last weekend it was time to get version 2 of my ‘Posy Parade’ quilted. I burned some oils, cranked up the music, and away Lizzie and I went. I found the perfect backing in my cupboard - a huge black and white check that was purchased many years ago. I love diving into my stash for fabrics to use as a backing.

I did consider custom quilting this but then remembered that black and white quilts tend to make the quilting VERY low impact. So instead I chose a fav edge-to-edge quilting pattern that incorporates a pointed petal flower with scrolls and feathers to give the quilt some interesting texture. This pattern is about to be tested and then will be available for purchase…so watch this space. 🤗

Let’s get up close and personal with Kathy Kerr’s magnificent Double Wedding Ring quilt. Professionally valued at $8000 - it is worth every dollar! 💝

Alrighty then! Last week saw me staggering over the finish line, courtesy of the quilting marathon that ‘girlfriend’ - Kathy Kerr - set for me. Said girlfriend is most emphatically our Quilt Queen this week with her mammoth Double Wedding Ring…although for a period…our friendship got relegated to something decidedly lesser. 😑

I get to be the Quilting Warrior because this was the biggest beast to grace Lizzie’s rollers and took seven very long days to complete. My body started murmuring around Day 3 and was in a full roar by the end of Day 4. Everything hurt - fingers, wrists, back, neck and feet - but I soldiered on cos that is what warriors do. 😜

That said…it is a magnificent quilt and I can love it again now that it is back in its mummy’s hands. I was smirking as I handed it over and pointed out that it was now her turn to grapple with the scallop binding - all 436 inches!!

And yes…I did drink that night. 😋

P.S. Kathy had it professionally valued at a whopping $8000.
P.P.S. Now she tells me she wants to make a scrappy one. 😶 I have gently suggested that perhaps it should be a touch smaller.

A little tour of Lynore Smith’s quilt hot off Lizzie’s press. Want something simple to do with your jellyroll…then this is your quilt!! It showcases fabrics with a full-on modern vibe.

Time for something simple, fun, and designed for the jellyroll pre-cut. Lynore Smith has made this beautiful modern quilt. A plain beige background is the perfect foil to make those 2” strips pop and its linen-like look really adds to the modern vibe.

For quilting - I went for texture texture texture baby!! 😋 A playful paisley to soften up all those straight lines. 💖

September was a busy month and involved:

✅ being a Miss September for the Quilters Companion Diary 2026
✅ finally finishing the binding for version 1 of ‘Posy Parade’
✅ accidentally creating a merged block from my ‘Petalworks’ and ‘Second Chance Circles’ quilts
✅ smashed out a Double Wedding Ring custom quilt over 7 days that had my 57 year old body roaring its displeasure at me
✅ survived - in fact - sailed through my most difficult Bipolar month…
so happy days!! 🤗

I debated whether I should share this IG post here but have decided that it is part of my story and a large part of the reason why Cooee Quilting exists. So here goes:

I have Bipolar. In sharing this, I am not asking you to feel sorry for me. I am a firm believer that we all have ‘our row to hoe’ and Bipolar just happens to be mine.

I manage it because the other option is unthinkable. I won’t lie…there were a few times when it was thinkable…but the opening to that tunnel has finally been bricked in by Yours Truly.

September is my worst month. Since time immemorial it has been Breakdown Central, delivered on cue, as the calendar ticks over. I have no living memory of a September when this has not been the case. But…this year the delivery has gone astray…and I have sailed blithely through and find myself in uncharted territory. Part of me wonders if I will spend the next few months waiting for my parcel…but I have made a conscious choice. I am calling it a win and will not look this gift horse in the mouth…because, honestly, why poison the well? Bipolar requires constant vigilance and management but, in the end, happiness is still a choice I get to make.

And yes…I celebrated it with bubbles!! 🤗

I have amassed quite a backlog with my custom quilting so am currently trying to rectify this situation. This week’s quilt was made by Marion Hudson - a lovely candlewick quilt with a few twists. The first is the theme of her blocks - Australian native flora - and, secondly, her use of coloured threads to make everything pop.

Marion tells me that she created the burnt tree blocks to increase the size and I just love their inclusion - so iconically Aussie. Finally, she returned to tradition with the insertion of the beautiful cotton lace which frames everything nicely.

For me…it’s a case of one down…a few more to go!! 🙃

This week our Quilt Queen is Lucy Colahan with her first ever quilt - a striking Trip Around the World. The colours are warm and that black gives this version some serious oomph! But it is also the rest of the fabrics - small florals that shift into larger scales and colours merging light through to dark - that make this composition so harmonious.

Of course, my quilting choice needed to contain florals but I chose this pattern because the addition of feathers and scrolls gave some added elegance to this timeless quilt. Well done Lucy! 👏👏👏
