Hideaways Camp Kuzuma

Hideaways Camp Kuzuma A private African escape found in the Kazuma Forest Reserve in the Chobe Enclave with no neighbouring lodges for miles.

Situated in a busy migration corridor between Chobe and Hwange, you can relax in camp and wait for the wildlife to come to you. There’s something utterly magical about enjoying an African safari in extreme style. Nothing beats spending hours in the bush excitedly tracking the big five, then returning to camp to wallow in five star luxury. At Camp Kuzuma in Botswana’s famous Chobe region the guests

don’t even need to go out looking for the animals, because they come to you. This luxurious private lodge sits in the world’s busiest ‘elephant corridor’ linking two of Africa’s most amazing parks: Chobe National Park and Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. The lodge overlooks a waterhole used by elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, roan antelope, sable and giraffe, closely followed by predatory lions and elusive leopards. It boasts a bewildering array of birdlife too. The camp is surrounded by the pristine Kuzuma Forest that meets the wide open plains of Kazuma Pans, offering a variety of terrain to explore on the two daily game drives. Bush walks are another unforgettable experience, with trained rangers taking guests even closer to nature. After a gourmet supper served on the deck beneath the stars, wander down to the camp fire for a nightcap and to recount the day’s adventures. Camp Kuzuma blends in perfectly with its pristine surroundings, with elevated wooden walkways connecting the main lodge to just five luxurious tented suites. Each suite is decorated with safari memorabilia and features a king-size bed, with twin and triple bed options available. En-suite bathrooms include a Victorian bath, double basins, twin inside showers, a delightfully decadent outdoor shower and a sundeck looking onto unspoilt wilderness. The eco-friendly design uses solar power to provide the electricity and hot water. The main lodge has bar, lounge and dining area, and a large deck and swimming pool. The sunken boma is a great place to read a book in the cool afternoon breeze, or to watch the wildlife walking by. An on-site spa adds another touch of luxury with a full range of pampering treatments. This exhilerating African adventure is just an hour’s drive from Botswana’s Kasane airport. Camp Kuzuma is also an ideal base for exploring the famous Chobe National Park, cruising on Chobe River or visiting the spectacular Victoria Falls. Guests also receive a warm welcome if they visit the local village to meet the head man and the schoolchildren, as Camp Kuzuma works hard to support its local community.

There one second, gone the next. Night drives at Camp Kuzuma can get interesting quickly, this leopard sat watching before disappearing back into the dark. Short sighting, but one guests won’t forget anytime soon.

Not the sighting most people expect after dark. To see them in the day is rare, and at night? Almost unheard of.

Cheetahs were seen on a night drive at Camp Kuzuma, usually more active during the day, sightings like this are far less common and all the more memorable to both our guides and guests because of it.

Camp Kuzuma’s smallest residents might be its most photographed.

Foam nest tree frogs have become an unexpected favourite among guests, especially younger explorers, who stop for photos, questions, and surprisingly long conversations about these tiny creatures. Small in size, but impossible to ignore once you notice them.

Proof that safari is often about the details as much as the big sightings.
