On World Gin Day, we’re raising a glass to , made in the Okavango Delta – the only place on Earth it can be.

Crafted from Mopane seed and pure waters that have travelled from the highlands of Angola, it’s a true expression of place. Dry, contemporary and full of local flavour.

A proudly Batswana creation we’re delighted to celebrate at Xigera Safari Lodge.

Here’s to craft, collaboration, and good spirits in every sense.

“Lenaga motlobo wa botlhale jobosa feleng – The wilderness holds endless wisdom.”

In the Delta, wellness is not an offering but an atmosphere – woven through water, light and the unbroken cadence of the wilderness.

Nature is a quiet pedagogy. It teaches equilibrium without effort: through flood and drought, abundance and restraint, silence and renewal. In its presence, time loosens its grip.

On Global Wellness Day, this philosophy extends from the open floodplains into the sanctuary of our spa, where every gesture is deliberate, elemental and deeply attuned; touch, scent and stillness calibrated to the same natural intelligence that shapes the landscape beyond.

To arrive here is to be re-absorbed into a more ancient rhythm; to remember that restoration is not escape, but return.

Some places change you. The Okavango Delta is one of them.

Long before Xigera welcomed its first guests, this extraordinary landscape was shaping the lives of the people, wildlife and communities that call it home. Today, we have the privilege of being part of that story.

One where lions swim between islands. Elephants carve pathways through floodplains. Seasons arrive in their own time. Life moves to a rhythm far older than our own.

That’s why every decision we make, from how we build and operate to how we conserve and host, begins with a simple understanding: this place does not belong to us. We belong to it.

In Setswana, they say:
"Re tlhokomela lefatshe gore lefatshe le re tlhokomele."
We care for the land so the land may care for us.

It is a belief deeply woven into life in Botswana and one that continues to guide us every day.

On World Environment Day, we are reminded that caring for the Delta is not a single initiative or annual commitment. It is a responsibility that extends far beyond our time. One we are proud to carry alongside our team, our partners and those who have stewarded this landscape for generations.

Because long after the photographs are taken and the journey home begins, the greatest gift is not just experiencing this remarkable place. It is knowing it will endure.

Where we place our attention matters. At Xigera, we believe that time invested in care - for the people we host, the landscapes we are privileged to be part of and the experiences we shape - translates into something much bigger than ourselves: the depth of connection our guests form with the Okavango Delta, its wildlife and its people.

To visit the Delta is an invitation: to slow down, to find wonder, to feel with all your senses.

If Xigera has stirred your soul, we would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to vote for us in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards.

The first welcome is more than a greeting. It is a promise: that you will be cared for, that every moment matters, and that the rhythms of the Delta will soon feel like home.

Smart Delta lions, why swim when you can wait for a boat?

Lions are famously not fans of water. With this year’s Delta floods at a decade’s high, this pride of Tau were seen waiting at the Xigera boat station, convinced a lift was on the way…

Lodge Manager Quest Maundo wasn’t having it. After a lengthy wait and a few unhappy stares in his direction, they gave up and swam the chilly stream.

Not at all impressed with Quest.

The Okavango has a way of opening both the landscape and the mind. As the horizon recedes into water and sky, the boundaries between observer and wilderness begin to soften. What remains is a quiet sense of belonging - to this place, to the earth beneath it, and to something larger than oneself.

The Delta is never the same place twice. We are enjoying a season of remarkable water, and witnessing a landscape transformed. To be present in this changing wilderness is to discover our place in this vast web of life - wondrous, shifting, and perfectly in balance.
