Warm days, cool evenings… and one very important question:
What temperature should the home be set to before your guests arrive?
This time of year can be tricky for short-term rental hosts. One day it feels like summer, the next evening feels cool enough to open the windows.
And with self check-in, guests may arrive hours after the cleaner leaves. If the AC is blasting all afternoon, the home may feel too cold. If the AC is off, the home may feel warm and uncomfortable when they walk in.
That first impression matters.
A good guest experience starts before they even open the front door.
A few simple things hosts can do:
✅ Have a standard temperature setting for your cleaner or turnover team
✅ Use a smart thermostat when possible
✅ Message guests before arrival and ask if they have a preferred comfort range
✅ Pay attention to the weather forecast, especially during seasonal changes
✅ Avoid extreme settings that make the home hard to recover from
The goal is not to make the home freezing cold or overly warm.
The goal is to make it feel comfortable, welcoming, and easy for the guest to adjust.
Small details like temperature can have a big impact on how guests feel when they arrive.
For hosts in different parts of the world, I’m curious:
How do you handle AC or temperature settings during check-in season?
Do you have your cleaners set it to a standard number, adjust based on weather, or ask guests ahead of time?
