Did you know The Malcolm Hotel, the Town of Canmore and the Highland Games all have a connection to the same Scottish king?

Canmore was named in honour of Malcolm III, King of Scots, who was also known as Malcolm Canmore. The Malcolm Hotel carries his name as a nod to the Scottish history behind our town.

Malcolm III is also traditionally associated with the beginnings of the Highland Games. More than 900 years ago, he is believed to have organized a hill race near Braemar to find the fastest runner to serve as his royal messenger. That gathering is considered part of the history behind the Highland Games celebrated today.

It’s one of the reasons our longstanding support of the Canmore Highland Games means so much to us.

The event is off to an incredible start already, so be sure to join us for the 35th annual Games this long weekend, and be sure to visit the Spring Creek Festival Tent while you’re there.

One of our favourite weekends of the year is almost here in Canmore.

The Malcolm Hotel and Spring Creek have been proud sponsors of the Canmore Highland Games for many years, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the 35th annual Games from September 4–6.

Join us in Centennial Park on Saturday and Sunday for Highland dancing, piping and drumming, heavy sports, traditional food and two full days of events.

The weekend also includes Taste of the Highlands on Friday, the Canmore Ceilidh on Saturday and the new Canmore Hooley on Sunday. Be sure to stop by the Spring Creek Festival Tent while you’re there. It will be home to all three evening events.
