This weekend we celebrated the grand opening of Omoide, a permanent exhibit that honours the history and legacy of Japanese Canadians on Gabriola Island. It focuses on the Koyama and Shinde families, and their contribution to Gabriola's culture, community, and economic history - right here in Silva Bay.
The grand opening included the connecting and building of relationships between the ancestors of these families and with the community of Gabriolans.
Then the icing on the cake was the unveiling of the four parts of the exhibit which were created by an incredible group of Gabriolan historians and artists.
The exhibits are permanent. We look forward to you finding the time to visit, see, and learn.
While the professional photographs will follow, here are a few snap shots of the day.
