Dixon Creek is a natural waterway that has been used and enjoyed by generations of residents and visitors from Limerick Lake, Mephisto Lake, St. Ola Lake, and Dark Lake. Under Canadian law, waterways that are capable of navigation—even by small craft—are generally protected for public use.

Today, my husband Shawn and our son Tristan went out to check on Dixon Creek after hearing concerns that someone had placed a rope or wire barrier across the passage. If true, this is not only dangerous to people and wildlife, but also raises serious questions about restricting access to a historically shared waterway.

There are also claims that “beaver activity” is responsible for recent obstructions. However, the tree cutting patterns observed do not appear consistent with natural beaver work, which warrants further attention and transparency.

This is not about conflict—it’s about protecting safe, lawful, and fair access to a natural space that has belonged to the community for decades.

We encourage everyone to:
• Stay informed
• Visit and respectfully enjoy these waterways
• Report any unsafe obstructions
• Support the preservation of public access rights

Our lakes and waterways are part of our shared heritage. They should remain safe, accessible, and respected—not restricted or controlled.
