Category 1 (campfire) prohibition rescinded throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre

WILLIAMS LAKE – Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre and Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.
Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on October 31, 2026 along with the following activities:
Air curtain burners
Carbonizers
Binary exploding targets
Burn Barrels or Burn Cages
Controlled air incinerators
Fireworks, as define in the Fireworks Act of B.C.
A campfire is defined as:
Any fire no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide (a fire larger than this is considered a Category 2 fire)
