Be Thankful! Be Firesmart! Be Careful! And never be a cig flicker!

Category 1 (campfire) prohibition rescinded throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre
September 1, 2026

WILLIAMS LAKE – Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre and Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on October 31, 2026 along with the following activities:

Air curtain burners
Carbonizers
Binary exploding targets
Burn Barrels or Burn Cages
Controlled air incinerators
Fireworks, as define in the Fireworks Act of B.C.
A campfire is defined as:

Any fire no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide (a fire larger than this is considered a Category 2 fire)

Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh wild fires! You cause folks and our planet so much grief. Here we sit calm, cool, and beautiful in our little rainforest in the Cariboo Mountains, but our guests can't get here from there. So, if you are looking for a last minute escape this weekend and live in the area, the Longhouse just became available for the weekend and next week for that matter.
