Big splash energy, grounded in community!💦

At Riverstone Swimming Centre, aquatic play is full of colour, movement, and meaning. Interactive sprays and playful water effects invite kids to run, dodge, discover, and jump into the kind of active, fun-filled play that keeps families coming back.

What makes this project a standout is its connection to place. Featuring Aboriginal artwork by Darug artist Leanne Watson, created in collaboration with the Darug Custodian Aboriginal Corporation, the splash pad celebrates local stories, culture, and community identity in a bold and beautiful way.

The result is a playful, welcoming space where kids can let loose, families can linger, and the community can see itself reflected in the experience! ☀️

What does “multi-generational play” actually mean in a public space?

It is not about getting everyone to do the same thing. It's about designing spaces where:

💦 kids are running, testing, and figuring things out
💦 teens are hanging out and making it their own
💦 caregivers are close by, sometimes watching, sometimes jumping in
💦 older adults can settle in, stay awhile, and still feel part of it all

You can feel right away when all of these elements click together. The space stays active, different age groups overlap instead of rotating through, and people stick around longer than they planned.

When a space starts doing more than just “serving a need," it starts bringing people together!
